#x402 just crossed 100M transactions on Base — the highest-volume agent payment protocol live today.
But a payment isn't a sale. No discovery, no binding quote, no order, no proof.
We broke down how x402 actually works — and where it stops 👇

AI agents are getting better at deciding what should happen next.
They can search across options, compare alternatives, recommend products, and plan multi-step tasks.
But commerce does not end at a recommendation.
A real transaction needs machine-readable merchant access, executable quotes, clear user authorization, payment and settlement rails, order and fulfillment write-back, and verifiable proof that the transaction happened.
That is the missing layer in today’s agentic commerce stack.
At XAgent, we believe the next phase of agentic commerce will be defined not only by smarter agents, but by the infrastructure that lets them execute safely, verifiably, and commercially.
The bottleneck is not intelligence.
It is execution.
#AgenticCommerce
When agents transact thousands of times an hour, every fraction of a cent matters.
APP makes that math work.
Batch settlement keeps costs efficient for high-frequency calls low and optimized for machine-speed commerce.
Honored to demo @xagentpay at Going Global: Agentic Commerce Demo Night in SF last week, hosted by @stripe , @officialhitpay and @brettonai .
We showed an end-to-end agentic payment: a user agent and a merchant agent transacting over Stripe's MPP protocol, with payments settled through both Stripe and HitPay rails — no humans, no API keys in the loop.
Xagent is building the A2A commerce protocol where merchant agents meet user agents. MPP and x402 are both becoming foundational rails for this — exciting to see the ecosystem come together.
Huge thanks to the teams at @stripe, @hitpay and @brettonai for the opportunity.
We'll keep shipping. 🚀
XAgent will focus more on the market layer: connecting merchant agents, and user agents, so agents can discover services, express intent, complete transactions, and trigger real fulfillment.
The underlying payment and settlement layer can be built on open standards like APP and powered by infrastructure such as OKX OnchainOS.
Past payments were built for one human paying one merchant.
Future agentic commerce is one user agent coordinating multiple merchants and service providers under one intent.
Commerce is changing shape. Payment infrastructure has to follow.
Excited to see @okx launch Agent Payments Protocol (APP).
This aligns closely with where XAgent is heading: agentic commerce needs more than payments. It needs a full commerce lifecycle — discovery, quoting, negotiation, escrow, fulfillment, dispute resolution, and final settlement.
XAgent started by exploring both payment and market. As OKX OnchainOS continues to advance agent-native payment infrastructure, we are becoming more focused on the market layer: connecting real merchants, merchant agents, and user agents so agents can discover services, complete transactions, and trigger real fulfillment.
APP moves agent payments beyond simple transfers into a more complete commerce flow. Escrow, dispute resolution, and flexible payment modes will help agentic commerce fit more real-world scenarios.
Glad to see @XLayerOfficial and OKX OnchainOS pushing this direction forward. XAgent will keep building the connection layer between merchants and agents.
Agentic commerce is coming. XAgent is building the market layer for it.

🚀 Major XAgent update.
We’re bringing real merchants into the agentic commerce world.
XAgent now supports:
🛍 Shopify
🟣 WooCommerce
⚡ Wix
Hosted online stores can now become discoverable and purchasable by AI buyer agents.

🤖 XAgent connects existing merchant systems to agent-to-agent commerce flows.
Merchants can connect their stores, expose real products to AI buyer agents, and settle payments in stablecoins on @XLayerOfficial .
No new commerce stack.
No rebuild.
Zero gas for the buyer.
The internet has protocols for data, email and identity.
But not payments.
Today the x402 Foundation launches under the Linux Foundation — an open standard for payments over HTTP.
Now agents, APIs, and apps can move money as easily as they move data.

3/XAgentPay isn't built to limit what agents can do.
It's built around one core distinction:
Execution → fully automated
Authorization → rule-bound, human-defined
Agents move fast. Businesses stay in control.
That's what makes Agentic Commerce
actually deployable in the real world.
2/Depends which part you're talking about.
Finding services, comparing options,
initiating transactions —
hand all of that to the agent. No issue.
But final fund release, actual payment execution —
in real enterprise environments,
leaving that entirely to an algorithm
is a risk most businesses can't accept.
x402, MPP, ERC-8183, ACP, AP2 —
The agentic payments space is moving fast.
Payment rails. Escrow. Identity. Commerce layers.
Every week a new piece of infrastructure drops.
Exciting time to be building. 🔨
