According to Gulf Times, #Qatar Charity, a Qatari humanitarian organization, is set to build #Somaliland’s first seawater desalination plant in the city of Zeila, in the Salal region.

The report says the project will cost around $500,000 and will provide clean, fresh, and reliable drinking water to the local community. The plant will also be equipped with a solar power system, allowing it to operate without relying on other sources of electricity that could add further costs.

Somaliland government officials reportedly expressed their appreciation to Qatar for supporting and implementing the project.

Somaliland’s coastal communities have not benefited from development at the same level as other parts of the country. Living conditions in many coastal areas remain difficult, which has also limited the development of the coastal economy and the opportunities available from the sea.

The Qatar Charity project is expected to become the largest project carried out by Qatar Charity in Somaliland, particularly in the coastal areas.
