The Dream That Made Malfoy Cry
“NOOOOO! HARRY! HARRY, DON'T GO!”
Dracaena jolted awake in her bed, breathing heavily.
“...A dream?”
She touched her cheeks. Tears.
“Harry...”
No. No, no, no! I need to find him! I need to apologize! I need to tell him I'm sorry!
And, perhaps one day, tell him those three words she could never bring herself to say.
I love you.
The next afternoon, she found Harry sitting alone in a quiet courtyard.
Harry: “Oh, what is it, Malfoy? Hurry up. I'm going to play with Ron and Fred.”
Malfoy: “Potter, listen. I'm sorry, okay? For everything I've done to you.”
Harry: “Seriously? Is that all? You know, I'd rather leave.”
Before he could turn around, Malfoy suddenly wrapped her arms around him.
Harry: “...Okay? What now?”
Malfoy: “Don't go, Potter.”
Her voice trembled. Tears began falling onto his robes.
Harry: “Bloody hell, why are you crying? Did Hermione punch you again? Honestly, I'm not surprised.”
Malfoy shook her head against his chest.
Harry: “Ron pranked you?”
Another shake.
Harry: “Then what happened? Come on, Malfoy. Spill it out.”
Malfoy: “I'm just sorry, okay? I've been horrible to you. Just... don't leave. Don't leave Hogwarts. Don't leave me.”
Harry stared at her.
Harry: “Malfoy, where am I supposed to go? Back to my relatives? And why would I leave Hogwarts? This place is my second home! It's the best place to prank Snape and all the professors!”
He laughed.
Harry: “Besides, 'don't leave me'? Wow. That's creepy. You sure are weird, Malfoy.”
HARRY, YOU ABSOLUTE BLOCKHEAD! I'M TRYING TO TELL YOU I LOVE YOU!
Malfoy: “Just promise me you won't leave... please?”
Harry: “Yeah, yeah, I promise. Now wipe your tears and your nose. Ugh, disgusting.”
Malfoy sniffled, then smiled against his robes.
Malfoy: “Hehehe. Now that's my servant.”
Harry: “There she is. Back to being annoying already.”
He gently pulled away.
Harry: “See you around, Malfoy! Ron and Fred are waiting!”
Harry ran off, waving without a second thought.
Malfoy watched him disappear around the corner.
She touched her still-wet cheeks and smiled.
He promised.
He promised he wouldn't leave.
She hugged herself, her heart finally a little lighter.
Malfoy: “...I love you, Harry.”
Of course, Harry was already too far away to hear her.
And for now, that was enough.
