@Lildealer_@sanson_ganbaru Yeah, the SΓ‘mi are from northern Scandinavia. I believe Santa's flying reindeer are inspired by their shamans feeding magic mushrooms to their reindeer and then drinking their piss to get high. If they ate the mushrooms directly they could die.
@Noia2014 "I don't like that your lived experience upsets my world view" It's okay buddy, you can just move on to other threads, you'll soon forget about this
@Lildealer_@sanson_ganbaru One of my in-laws was adamant he was part-SΓ‘mi despite his entire family tree being from the Mediterranean. He was upset when the DNA test confirmed what the rest of us knew
@richnheartless@WeanoobGamer@sanson_ganbaru I've encountered these types of people in Boston, New York, SanFran, Dallas, and Augusta, Maine (of all places), but I think they were more likely to bring it up when talking to me because I'm European.
@sanson_ganbaru We don't mind it when Americans say things like "Some of my ancestors were Italian, so I want to visit Italy." We get irritated when they say things like "Some of my ancestors were Italian, so I'm just as Italian as you!" It feels like obnoxious cosplay.
@Noia2014@sanson_ganbaru Don't worry though, they do seem to be dying out. I guess that the younger generations are becoming a bit more self-aware. I think we'll see the end of it when millennials die off.
@Noia2014@sanson_ganbaru Lol, trust the American to try and tell us what our lived experience is. I'm sorry that you're upset, but the Americans you deny exist do exist. We encountered them growing up, I encountered them when I worked in America, and we still encounter them today.
@sanson_ganbaru The Americans who do it tend to be insecure about their own identity, and so it leads them to do things like this: lying, and then blocking you because they think it stops you from calling them out.
@TheAvatarofSet From the angry replies I can tell the joke is subtle enough to fool the dim witted (as I intended), but you were clever enough to spot it.
