🚨BREAKING on AIR INDIA/BOEING February incident and fuel-control switch panel testing

Indian officials will travel to Seattle to observe Boeing's testing of a fuel-control switch panel that was removed from an Air India 787 in February after the pilots of a London-Bengaluru flight flagged a possible defect, documents show.

Indian government has insisted it wants to be in the room during testing as the matter is "sensitive". Testing unrelated to last year's crash, but renews the spotlight on the Boeing Dreamliner fuel switches.

As "the matter is sensitive in nature, Air India is hereby directed to ensure that the strip/test examination at OEM's (Boeing) premises is carried out in the presence of a DGCA officer," Manish Kumar, a DGCA deputy director of airworthiness, wrote in his March 9 email.

The twelve Air India crew members have been officially identified by the airline & remembered by their colleagues, among the 241 lives lost in the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, went down shortly after takeoff on June 12, 2025, crashing into a residential area near the airport. The incident marks the first fatal crash involving a Dreamliner and leaves the global aviation community mourning the loss of dedicated professionals.

1. Pneumatic De-Icing :
Wing leading edges – Removes ice from the wing's front.
Horizontal tailplane leading edge – Clears ice from the horizontal stabilizers.
Engine air intakes & gas path de-icer – Prevents ice buildup in engine inlets.

2. Electrical Anti-Icing :
Windshields – Heats and defrosts the cockpit windows.
Probes – Heats important sensors (TAT, Pitot, Alpha, Stat probes) to avoid ice interference.
Propellers – De-ices the propeller blades.
Horns – Keeps aircraft control surfaces free from ice.

3. Ice Detection Systems :
Ice evidence probe – Senses and confirms ice buildup.
Electronic ice detector – Automatically detects ice formation.

4. Control Panel Operations :
Displays switches and statuses for probe heating (PROBES HTG) and windshield heating (WINDSHIELD HTG), ensuring proper anti-icing functionality.
