It is with great sadness that I wish to inform you of the sudden passing of Serge Koutchmy. He will be sorely missed as a longtime personal friend, and as a friend to many among the solar physics community.

My thoughts are with his daughter Natalie and his son Valéry.

A couple more images from the 2022 October 25th partial solar #eclipse taken from the southern suburbs of Paris, France. The sky wasn’t completely clear, clouds were constantly drifting in front of the Sun, the stability not too great at the beginning but improving near the end.

@dermuehle @Astroguyz @_autoevolution_ There were multiple pre-production Concorde and they all achieved a top speed of Mach 2.2+ which is why I omitted the second decimal. Given what André Turcat told me and print-outs at my disposal it’s safe to assume the Mach 2.6 figure is pure fiction.

@Astroguyz @_autoevolution_ Mach 2.2 is the official top speed and André Turcat, the test pilot, told me higher speeds could stall the engines and damage the airframe.

@Astroguyz @_autoevolution_ [3/3] Unfortunately test pilots André Turcat and Jean Toussaint Franchi are not with us anymore. Without the flight parameters print-out, and I’m sure they still exist in the Concorde 001 archives, we shouldn’t take this top speed seriously.
