🚨 Michael Carrick on why he broke down in tears after Manchester United’s humiliating 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth:

“I couldn't hold it in anymore. When that third goal went in, something broke inside me. And when the final whistle came, I just stood there looking at the pitch, wondering how Manchester United had fallen this far.

I'm the manager, and I have to take responsibility. But people need to understand that this club means more to me than a job. I've played for Manchester United, I've won trophies here, and I know what this club is supposed to represent.

Watching us lose 3-0 at Old Trafford, seeing our supporters leave disappointed, was genuinely heartbreaking.

I looked at the fans, and I couldn't even look at some of them for too long. What am I supposed to tell them? That we tried? That we'll do better next time? They've heard those words too many times.

And honestly, I'm scared. With the way we're playing, Manchester United could actually be relegated this season. I never thought I'd hear myself say those words about this football club, but how can I ignore what I'm seeing? We keep making the same mistakes, we're struggling to compete, and nothing seems to be changing.

People will say I should be sacked, and I understand their anger. They pay their money, they support this club through everything, and they deserve better than what we're giving them.

But what hurts me most is that Manchester United is crumbling before my very eyes, and I'm the man who's supposed to stop it.

I wasn't crying because we lost a football match. I was crying because I'm beginning to fear what this season could become. I don't want to be the manager who watches Manchester United get relegated. I couldn't live with that.”
