If Christians retreat from culture out of discouragement or apathy, they will soon discover that neutrality is an illusion. A culture does not remain empty; it is always filled by something, either truth or falsehood, beauty or corruption.
When believers abandon the public square, the arts, the schools, and the marketplace, the vacuum they leave is swiftly occupied by godless ideas that shape hearts and govern nations. To disengage is not to preserve purity but to surrender ground.
Yet to engage culture rightly is not to conform to its spirit but to renew it through truth and virtue. Christians must learn to wield influence without compromise, to be in the world yet not of it, to build, write, teach, and govern as those whose allegiance is to Christ. We must recover the confidence that all of life belongs to God and that every inch of creation should echo His glory.
Where does this leave us? Not in despair, but in duty. The call is not to escape the world but to cultivate it faithfully, to shape its music, its laws, its schools, and its imagination until they once again reflect the splendour of the Kingdom.
Brothers,
Family Worship is essential.
Your children are always watching.
They are being shaped by your leadership (or lack thereof).
They are being molded by your nightly liturgies more profoundly than we can understand.
Wash them in the word.
Categorize them.
Joyfully sing over them.
Teach them to pray.
I have certainly not done this perfectly.
I have made excuses and skipped nights.
I have failed to lead in many ways and on many fronts, nevertheless, God has remained faithful.
God continues to bless my efforts.
He continues to convict me when I fail to lead as I ought, and he continues to call me back to repentance and faith.
Though my efforts have been far from perfect, God still brings about growth.
Cal (my son) has taken to breaking out into prayer and songs randomly throughout the day.
He loves to sing psalms and hymns.
He is learning to love his savior.
For any of my brothers who struggle with daily family worship rhythms, I just want to encourage you (especially if you have littles).
JUST DO IT.
It doesnβt need to be perfect. You donβt have to have read a commentary to prep. Just start.
Bible.
Catechism.
Song(s).
Pray.
7-15 minutes tops.
Brothers, you got this.
Lead your families.
The song book Cal is using there is specifically for Family worship.
We have 6 (for when guests come over). During family worship we all open our songbooks and sing together.
It has classic hymns, βwar songs,β and Psalms.
I put a link it in the comments for anyone who is interested.π
