We thank Allah جل جلاله for allowing the realities and bitter fruits of oppression to become observed. The oppressor may live for years surrounded by power wealth soldiers and praise but none of that prevents the decree of Allah جل جلاله when it arrives. A person eventually sees the consequences of what his own hands sent forward and the legacy he cultivated becomes a testimony to the path he chose.

The Prophet ﷺ passed by a funeral and said

مستريح ومستراح منه

He is either relieved or others are relieved from him

The companions رضي الله عنهم asked what this meant and the Prophet ﷺ explained that the believing servant is relieved from the hardship and harm of this world to the mercy of Allah while the wicked servant is one from whom the people the land the trees and the animals are relieved

When oppression ceases and the servants of Allah are relieved from the harm of a wicked person we praise Allah جل جلاله for relief belongs to Him and deliverance comes by His decree. We do not claim knowledge of the unseen and we do not judge the final destination of a specific person without evidence from Allah and His Messenger ﷺ but we recognise oppression as oppression and we recognise the removal of harm as a blessing.

How many oppressors believed their palaces would protect them. How many thought their armies would preserve their names. How many silenced the oppressed imprisoned the truthful and spilled blood believing that tomorrow would always belong to them. Then the decree of Allah جل جلاله arrived and the earth continued without them.

فقطع دابر القوم الذين ظلموا والحمد لله رب العالمين

So the people that committed wrong were eliminated And all praise is for Allah Lord of all worlds

Surah al Anam 6 45

The death of an oppressor is not the death of justice. Rather it is a reminder that the oppressor was always mortal while Allah جل جلاله is Ever Living and never dies. Therefore when Allah جل جلاله removes a source of oppression and grants relief to His servants we thank Him praise Him and remember that every tyrant will one day stand alone before the Lord of the worlds with neither guards nor titles nor propaganda to speak on his behalf.

The Srebrenica genocide. 11 July 1995. 31 years ago today.

The Bosnian Serb Army (VRS) rounded up and murdered over 8000 Bosniak boys and men.

They slit their throats, shot, beheaded, and executed them— and threw them in mass graves.

They forcibly displaced the women, children, and elderly. They raped the women and girls.

This took place during the Bosnian genocide which began after the collapse of Yugoslavia.

While the Bosniaks were Muslim, Serbs Orthodox Christian, and Croats Roman Catholic— they were genetically and ancestrally exactly the same people. They looked the same, spoke the same language and had lived in the same towns for over 500 years.

Political manipulation and religious divisions were used to completely destroy that shared identity and divide the South Slavs.

The remains of Bosniak victims are still being discovered and identified today.
