why are you paying for ahrefs?
- backlink spam filters don’t really work (jev could probably fix this btw)
- dr doesn’t guarantee site authority, especially below 70
- organic traffic estimates are often based on rankings with zero ctr or spam queries
- rank tracker is unstable, partly thanks to google
- bing is basically ignored
- expensive pricing + strict limits
- dataforseo does most of the same work cheaper and with more flexibility
People Also Ask isn’t the best source of prompts for AI visibility tracking.
I know some people use this box to collect questions and then track brand visibility across AI search. And it looks like Ahrefs may be using a similar approach to build its prompt database.
The problem is that the quality of these questions drops pretty quickly. The first questions in People Also Ask are usually relevant to the original search query. But the further you expand the box, the more often:
- search intent changes
- questions drift into adjacent topics
- old dates and outdated context start appearing
- questions become less relevant to your site and actual audience
There’s a more practical source: Google Search Console.
You can filter real user queries using this regex:
(?i)^(?:what|when|where|which|who|whom|whose|why|how|can|could|would|will|should|is|are|was|were|do|does|did|has|have|had|may|might|must|tell me|show me|explain|compare|recommend)(?:\s|$).{28,}
Then sort them by impressions.
This gives you longer question-based queries that:
- are already relevant to your website
- are actually used by your audience
- have proven search demand
For AI visibility tracking, I think this is a much more relevant prompt set than questions pulled from People Also Ask.
