The curious thing about colonialism is that it stops being viewed in the negative sense once it fully succeeds, because it has to completely transform the population, its culture, and its history to pull that off.

North Africans don’t frame the Arab conquests as colonization like the French or Turks because they accepted Islam as their faith, adopted Arabic as the language of the Quran, intermarried extensively, and through centuries of participation built a shared Islamic civilization complete with Berber-led dynasties.
