Today should be a day of celebration for renowned Uyghur professor Rahile Dawut on her 60th birthday. Instead, she remains locked away in darkness.

Amnesty Press stated that they have gathered heartfelt messages from her friends, colleagues and former students to remember the countless lives she has touched. Rahile was forcibly disappeared in 2017 and is reportedly serving a life sentence in China.

Her only "crime" was preserving the rich cultural heritage and stories of the Uyghur people. Intellectuals and cultural guardians should be celebrated, not erased by the state. 🕯️📚
