Life is amazing:
-coffee exists
-gyms exist
-hot girls outnumber even moderately put-together dudes 2000 to 1
-you and your wife can drink 4 bottles of wine then smash all night without a condom
-you and your friends can hit the gym then smoke a joint at a Coldplay concert
-every food item in the world has been hunted/gathered for you (grocery stores)
-you could be working 16 hour days in a coal mine in a third world country
There are people who live in wheelchairs. There are kids born with disabilities. No 4th of July weekends, no sleepovers with their best friends staying up until 2AM watching Interstellar.
And you’re not SMASHING the gym like a grateful SAVAGE!? Eating healthy 90% of the time, calling your friends for no reason, CRUSHING it in your career, asking for the promotion, asking out your crush making her your girlfriend then your wife!?
You are spinning on a sphere in an infinite universe and the fact you’re alive is a 1 in 500 trillion miracle - you’re so lucky it’s absurd and you have nothing to lose :)
Life update: downloaded Hinge last week. Currently sitting on 200 likes and 20 matches. Haven't purchased a thing.
My takeaway: the more time you spend making yourself more desirable the more desirable you are...
Huh.
One of the earliest and most heartbreaking depictions of the relationship between man and dog is in the Odyssey:
- Argos is the only one who recognizes Odysseus immediately, even in disguise.
- He is too weak to stand, but he wags his tail and drops his ears when he sees him.
- Odysseus can't reveal himself or openly acknowledge him
- Instead, he asks the swineherd about the dog, indirectly praising him.
- He sheds a tear, and turns his face so no one notices.
- After seeing his master one last time, Argos dies.
Nearly three millennia, and this simple human moment is something everyone can relate to.
Understated life hack is training your mind and body as intensely and consistently as possible in your youth.
Raises your baseline forever.
Even if you stop, you recover everything so much faster. You always have traces of your prime athletic sculpture and intellectual rigour.
The UK has a far flatter income distribution than the Communist Soviet Union.
The UK take home minimum wage for working a full time job (40-hours) is now £22,555.
At £100k salary, the take home is £68,558.
That is a net income ratio of 3.04:1
We are now at the point where the wage compression and taxes in the UK means that the difference between minimum wage and a top 5% salary is a net income difference of only ~3x.
In the USSR using the same comparison, this figure never fell below 5:1
It's actually even worse in reality because the person earning £100k in the UK often has student loans.
Britain is nominally capitalist but functionally communist. China is nominally communist but functionally capitalist.
Funny how that works.
