If you imagine for a second what Europe would look like without European unity you quickly realise why our enemies want us fragmented.

Without the European Union, each individual country would have little diplomatic, economic and military power. Even if a few of them had some strength, they’d have to waste it competing with every other European country. They would have no breath left to fight the real adversaries.

For great powers like the US and China and middle powers like Russia, dominating Europe would be a walk in the park. If Russia attacked the Baltics, Poland or Romania, there would be no one to support them. If the US wanted to impose insane tariffs, there would be no way to retaliate. If China wanted to crush a country’s industry, there would be no mechanisms to prevent it.

Just look at how fragile other American allies in Asia and in the Middle East appear now that the US has abandoned them. And they have nowhere else to turn.

But Europe will always have somewhere to turn. There will always be allies. There will always be help. As long as Europe stands united, we will always have each other, and to attack one of us they will have to go through all the others.

To survive, Europe must unite 🇪🇺

Not “protecting Donbas.”
Not “denazification.”

A future in Europe.
A future as a sovereign nation with its own language, politics, identity and destiny.

That is what the Kremlin could not accept.

For an empire, the greatest threat is not a foreign army at its border.

It is a former colony realizing that it no longer needs the empire — and choosing freedom.

Precisely. And this is why the Europeans should accelerate the ongoing mindset change, moving from treating US support as a "must have" to a "nice to have".
This is eminently doable with an appropriate military strategy which is not about replicating the US model. And if a saner administration wants to reestablish the strong links we all have benefited from for several decades, it will be for the best, but we can't and shouldn't count on it.

Minister Sikorski proposes a groundbreaking model: a standing force, starting at brigade level and potentially growing into a real European land force - recruited by Europe, rather than national units temporarily seconded by capitals.

🇪🇺 European volunteers, serving under a European flag, alongside professionals from candidate countries and, after the war, battle-hardened 🇺🇦 Ukrainian veterans.

Crucially, national armies would not disappear, and Member States would retain their security and defence prerogatives.

This could be the most realistic way to create a permanent European military capability that serves Europe’s collective interest - without dismantling national armies or surrendering national sovereignty.

Europe would finally have a force of its own: reinforcing NATO, strengthening deterrence, and ready to defend Europe when Europe decides to act.

C’est un contre sens inspiré de vieux réflexes anti 🇺🇸 et d’un refus (pourquoi ?) de faire face à la menace 🇷🇺 : il faut plutôt accélérer le pilier européen de l’OTAN.
C’est justement une question d’indépendance, de souveraineté stratégique et de sécurité des 🇫🇷.
Sortir de l’Alliance atlantique affaiblirait
:
- notre sécurité puisque nous ne bénéficierions plus du soutien de l’article 5
- la sécurité de nos alliés européens les plus exposés à la menace russe
- donc notre influence et nos intérêts industriels en Europe
- et l’Alliance atlantique elle même, rejoignant finalement la ligne hostile à l’OTAN de Donald Trump, la fixation de Vladimir Poutine d’affaiblir cette alliance et la position de l’extrême droite de complaisance envers l’un comme l’autre.
Il faut penser et agir collectif entre Européens, peser dans l’OTAN pour l’européaniser, bref, faire face et non laisser faire sans et contre nous.

Je résume rapidement “l’argument”:
- les États-Unis sont méchants
- la France est super forte avec sa dissuasion nucléaire et sa présence mondiale
- Passage obligé sur De Gaulle 🤷‍♂️
- On pourra avoir une super diplomatie qui parle à tout le monde.

Donc tout aussi rapidement puisqu’apparemment ils ont de l’eau dans le crâne à LFI:
- est-ce qu’il vaut mieux avoir un véto dans l’OTAN ou regarder depuis l’extérieur ce qui s’y passe et nous affecte directement (spoiler: tous nos voisins et partenaires économiques et politiques majeurs sont dans l’OTAN)?
- top. Il va falloir multiplier le budget des armées par 10 pour assurer tout seuls la défense collective dont on bénéficie au sein de l’alliance, et notemment contre la Russie. Vous allez le financer comment? On coupe les retraites en premier? Ou on s’endette encore plus? Bonus: il n’aura échappé à personne que la France est en Europe, et que la sécurité européenne et la stabilité du continent sont dans notre intérêt. Donc on va refaire comme en 67 quand après le coup d’éclat du retrait du commandement militaire intégré, on a mis au point les modalités pratiques de notre participation à la défense collective du continent avec les accord Ailleret/Lemnitzer?
- 🤦‍♂️De Gaulle, qui avait un cerveau (même si pas toujours de grandes réussites) n’est jamais sorti de l’OTAN
- et qui va vouloir vous parler en Europe une fois qu’on aura abandonné nos alliés sur le seul sujet qui compte pour eux? Ah mais oui, suis-je bête, il y a la “latinite” et le monde multipolaire. Ça ira plus vite d’assumer directement que vous voulez vous soumettre à la Chine et à la Russie. Mais bon courage pour en tirer les mêmes avantages économiques et surtout le même respect de notre souveraineté. Avec ces “partenaires”, vous risquez d’avoir des surprises…

With Greenland, the need for more European defence has been awakened, no one denies it anymore. Within Ceuta, Migration is now viewed as a European responsibility, not a national one.

While there might be disagreements here and there, the discussion is now about what kind of European solutions we need, no longer is the main rhetoric national.

Which is a genuine step forward.
