Kai Montinola is urging fans who intensely "ship" her with fellow stars to keep the fandom fun without crossing personal boundaries.
In a recent interview addressing "hardshippers," Montinola acknowledged their passion and expressed gratitude for their support of her and her co-stars. However, she reminded fans that celebrities are simply doing their jobs.
“Of course, they love to do that because they’re very passionate,” she said. “Thank you, because somehow, you are able to support us as artists alongside the many people we work with.”
Montinola drew a firm line regarding behavior that negatively impacts others.
“I hope we can remain calm,” Montinola said, standing beside her current on-screen partner, Kyle Echarri. “At the end of the day, we are just here to work, entertain people, and we mean no harm. Let’s not do anything that could make someone feel bad about themselves.”
Her remarks arrive amid ongoing discussions about Filipino love-team culture, where critics continue to question the toxic side of online shipping—particularly when fan loyalty devolves into online attacks against other artists or rival supporters.
Montinola and Echarri are set to headline their first film together, “First Sem,” a college romantic comedy directed by Rod Marmol featuring newcomers Joaquin Arce and Lella Ford. The duo previously demonstrated their on-screen chemistry in the action series “Roja,” starred as real-life couple Team HaNie in a “Maalaala Mo Kaya” episode, and performed together on “ASAP Natin ’To.”
Despite the ongoing fandom noise surrounding their partnership, Montinola closed with a simple request: “I hope we spread more love, and I hope you enjoy my partnership with Kyle in this movie.”

Working Title: "The Song We Left Behind"
Synopsis:
Kyler Smith ( #JarrenGarcia ) is a Filipino-British pop star on the verge of losing everything. Once a rising sensation in Europe, his career has stalled after a string of failed releases and bad press. Bitter and emotionally guarded, Kyler has long rejected his Filipino roots, blaming his estranged Filipino mother for abandoning him when he was only nine.
Desperate for a comeback, Kyler reluctantly accepts his friend’s suggestion to return to the Philippines for a promotional tour—despite insisting that he has nothing to do with the country anymore.
During a visit to an old Manila landmark, Kyler experiences a strange phenomenon and suddenly finds himself transported to Manila in the early 1900s. With no phone, money, or way home, he is taken in by a mysterious young Filipina who mistakes him for a traveling musician.
At first, Kyler is frustrated by the unfamiliar world—and by the outspoken girl, Rosaura Mendoza ( #KoletteMadelo ) who constantly challenges his arrogance. But as they spend more time together, she introduces him to a Manila he has never known: its music, traditions, struggles, and the quiet beauty of being Filipino.
For the first time, Jarren begins to understand the heritage he once despised. Their connection deepens into an impossible romance, even as Kyler discovers that the girl is hiding a secret that may be connected to his own family's past—and the reason his mother left him decades later.
As he searches for a way back to the present, he faces an agonizing choice: return to the life he knows and the career he desperately wants to save, or risk everything to stay with the woman who has made him finally feel at home.
And when he eventually returns to the present, Kyler discovers that the past has changed something far more important than his career: it has changed him.
THE TWIST
The girl is an aspiring singer who has written a song that was never recorded because of the social restrictions of her era. Jarren helps her finish it, teaching her melodies and songwriting techniques from his time.
When he returns to 2026, he hears that same melody being performed by his own mother in an old family recording.
