On the concert flow and production: The trend these days is 'simple is best' and everything about the production was SIMPLE. It felt very on trend. Personally, I was blown away by the quality of the VCRs. I hadn't even listened to 'Gravity' before the concert so I had no information on the album but I was deeply impressed by the cosmic to biographical connection. The NASA morse code narration part, the emergency signals that acted as chapter dividers, the sophisticated way the scientific concept of gravity was given visual representation etc The production was truly remarkable. Same goes for the stage effects but especially when the entire screen turned red during the dance break. At that part I thought, this is made by someone who knows what they're doing (May they always produce Junsu's shows forever). The use of lights were also very effective . People who go to a lot of concerts will know that 80% of quality production are determined by the lights and they used them well. Not only the starlights on the ceiling for the encore stage but the red lasers that created the shape of planets spinning during 'Red Diamond' was also impressive.
Personally, I think he should take on 5th gen Kpop.
Oh and by the way, are tickets for the Osaka show open?
I want to add.. I've been to a lot different festivals and concerts but this was my first experience sitting primly like a classical music audience because I just.. I just couldn't help sitting there, mouth shut and listen.
Personally, I was fascinated that such a sound could come out from a human being. We are the same species but how can he make those sounds..? I felt the enormity of his talent.
Does anyone here like baseball? In baseball, we consider pitch velocity as talent and in the same vein, I felt that voice power is also just talent lol He is loud but in a really compelling way. When you look up Junsu on Wiki, you're encountered with countless praise from music experts and I agree with every one of them. He is pure talent. They say a true master makes it look easy and Junsu is that kind of master. I began to doubt if he ever contemplated deeply about singing. Then I reflected on my own worship of talent because I thought I had always valued hard work more. But I surrender to his innate talent.
There's a moment in the show when he's alone under just a pin light, singing 'Reach' and 'Red Diamond' and the word "singer" popped into my head. It felt like seeing the actualization of the word which had felt abstract before, a valuable experience for me. I wanted to see his concert again so, as if in a trance, I went to buy a ticket to the last day.
In-person singing: I'm forcing this part in because I think there needs to be reviews of his singing-in-concert instead of reviews based on what you hear through earphones.
He was crazy for going all 3 days from start to finish with raw live vocals, striking terror into fans' hearts (positive) I applaud his unchanging backbone and spirit.
The way his voice on the first day sounded different from the third day showed that he is walking instrument. I really really loved how the subtle changes in live singing catered to detail-perverts like me. The climax was the last day because his voice was a little hoarse so he was rasping it up and, by that time, I was already planning my trip to his Hong Kong show.
Oh, and I found it interesting because, normally, if there's an AR, they don't sing the ad-libs. I think he whipped out the AR around 'Incredible' but I was astonished when he then proceeded to ad-lib on top of it like sneezes he couldn't hold in. They use AR because it's hard to sing while dancing but why is he ad-libbing? And even with the AR, he couldn't keep the vow of silence for more than 3 seconds. Honestly, it was great for me because I got double his voice. (His voice overpowered the AR, I'm not even exaggerating.)
Brought another fan review which reads like a dissertation lol Super long, super detailed, super enthusiastic.
He says he's been a fan 10 years ago but never saw a Junsu performance, so when he stumbled on Gravity, bought himself tickets to his first Junsu concert.
******
In-person visual: Kyaaaa a real fucking man (duh)
Why didn't anyone tell me he had this cool factor? I feel cheated by life that I was ignorant of it all this time. He's still a great dancer and his behavior is so manly that he gives off a really cool vibe. Seeing him in person, he seemed like such an unbothered king that my jaw dropped like a caveman who first discovered fire.
And he's really!! really!!! good-looking, it's a shame that the camera doesn't adequately capture him. At first, I was super impressed by the size and quality of the LED but after seeing him up-close, I wanted to throw things at the screens. His face is super small, it's a wonder it contains his eyes, nose and mouth. His skin tone is like a Seongsu-dong salt baguette. His limbs are really long, how are those human legs? He's the greatest leg output from the 80s. What's shocking is that he. is. still. adorable. (But his gestures and proportions were manly, insane..)
When he came to my area, he smiled widely as if he was enjoying 'Pit A Pat' and I was instantly transported to Hanam High school (in other words, he oozes boyish charm)
The thought that came to mind after seeing him perform is that his dance lines never die (+ nor how cool it looks) (++nor his talent)
The outfits were really nice, too. A plain white T and jeans always do it for guys. Personally I thought the last day outfits were the GOAT except for 'Xiahtic' for which I preferred the 2nd day outfit.
