🇨🇦 RBC says between 2015–2024 Canada had an “unprecedented capital recession” and says more than $1 trillion of investment exited Canada over that decade.

It also says that for every $1 of inward foreign direct investment, roughly $2 flowed outward.

Statistics Canada shows the same underlying imbalance in the investment stock: by the end of 2024, Canadians held about $2.47 trillion in direct investment abroad, versus roughly $1.50 trillion of foreign direct investment in Canada—a net direct-investment position of about $971 billion.
