Climate change will always affect the poorest people first. The Global North is responsible for around 92% of excess historical carbon emissions, yet the Global South suffers 90% of the economic costs and the vast majority of climate related deaths

The Global South has been living through the climate crisis for decades while the rest of the world ignored it. Now that the heatwaves are hitting the North, people want to equalize the suffering. But you cannot equate a heatwave in a wealthy nation with a heatwave hitting millions of people living without access to power or cooling infrastructure. Indigenous peoples have been on the front lines warning us about the destruction of the biosphere for decades, and capitalism completely ignored them to keep extracting profit. Climate change under capitalism is just a continuation of global exploitation, the poorest always pay first.
