What deep friendships? We see she has friendships,we see what she likes,we see her hobbies....THIS IS THE BARE MINIMUM. Every character to ever exist should have these. What about autonomy, agency, personal struggles and MEANINGFUL explorations of these, not linked to ichigo?
@JarvaroGort2 1.) she’s not complex 2.) My points weren’t really in relation to fanservice, in fact I haven’t mentioned that once in any of my comments; fanservice ≠ automatically bad character, she’s just not a complex or good character lol
Shes essentially an object for the entire narrative but somehow a moment that’s a result of rewriting a decade old arc somehow makes her a good character ??
@LmaoYoureSoBad Those are bigger problems with how women characters are handled and by no means stop or start at shonen; moreover, shonen isn’t a genre, while it’s aimed at young boys and that can explain some of these issues there’s still a plethora of shonen series that do their women justice
@Dundundand36451 Ehh it applies here because this applies to all of bleach, it’s hard to feel like these are actual characters they just react to stuff happening to them, coupled with lack of personal trajectory and no agency; it just didn’t do anything at all for me
The cognitive dissonance regarding the popularity of Big Mom within the Youtube space makes for quite a fascinating case study on echo-chambers.
Within the Youtube space, Big Mom is consistently slandered as a joke character, but outside of it, Big Mom is generally regarded as a great character. Pretty much all conservations I've had about her character with people in the Youtube space are derisive, but the same conversations with irl friends and people in the Twitter space are much more variable.
Personally, I've always felt that Big Mom's character is much more nuanced and well written than most people acknowledge. Certainly a lot of the fanbase are ironically deaf to the arguments of the depth of her character.
Why is that ironic? Well because that's one of the main themes of Big Mom's character arc, people not listening to her. In chapter 865, Big Mom remembered Mother Caramel, and said, "Hey Mother, listen, Mother. No one will hear me out." Then, in chapter 1140, aptly titled "Wasted words on young ears." Big Mom faces her downfall as a result of Law's ability, "Silence."

le pire arc ? Oda pardonne leur ils ne savent pas que ton histoire c’est la NÔTRE et que tu reflète le MONDE lui-même #ONEPIECE
@SilvaStryda Well for starters bleach is very accessible why would I have not read it? Furthermore let’s just argue the point or be in agreement to disagree instead of these X dot com gimmicks lol
@Dundundand36451 There’s just no way you read bleach and think it’s character driven; it’s a series made almost entirely of characters reacting to the plot
None of these change the fundamental issue, putting up panels of her wanting agency doesn't mean she has it. Kubo gives her internal motivation, but structurally reduces her entire purpose in major arcs to a plot device. Which is what I mean by object in the first place
@hardeyolu03 She didn't break anything.?? Looking at Ichigo with relief isn't breaking Book of the End. Immediately after this, her brainwashing causes a psychological breakdown, forcing Urahara to knock her out cold until Byakuya beats Tsukishima. ????
@hardeyolu03 READ THE END OF YOUR OWN SCREENSHOT?? How can it be agency to comply with Ulq when the scenario is literally coercion? ; again she doesn’t break his hold UNTIL byakuya beats him; and saying u will fight jus to be a hostage and bait 😭😭?
