Years ago I'd say "let them vent, they're victims" but as I learn more, they're also enablers, content is propaganda, always "resent your boyfriend (but stay with him)" but never "leave your boyfriend".

On its core its teaching women to suck it up and just accept mistreatment.

If you look closely, you’ll see these women everywhere: the “wing wife,” who talks her husband up at social events because he doesn’t say much or engage. There’s also the “take-flight wife.” She literally pushes her spouse toward a group of men, as a bird urges her fledgling out of the nest. The “not-now wife,” on the other hand, refuses to play the game. She’s usually been married for more than a decade and resents her introverted husband.

A lot of women tell writer Monica Corcoran Harel this is new. Their spouses weren’t always so withdrawn. They married fun men who had fun friends. Their husbands used to hang out, even text, with those dudes. Somewhere along the way, though, they quit making the effort. These men don’t seem to realize how much women work at keeping friendships alive. “I liken it to stoking a fire at a campsite: We gather kindling, gauge the wind, blow on the embers. Some men just watch the flames diminish to a flicker,” writes Harel. “They’re left with a pile of ash and come to rely on their wives for any shred of a social plan — or simply meander around the house every weekend like moose, an amiable but solitary species.”

For some guys, seemingly, it’s simply that their interpersonal skills go *poof!* once they settle into married life. It’s almost as if they forget how to ask, “What’s up, man?” But why? And why do the women in their lives feel compelled to act like mothers who nudge their shy, sniffling toddlers onto the playground?
