On Islam Zebari’s Arrest: He is reportedly being transferred to Erbil today and is expected to stand trial in a military court under the Ministry of Peshmerga.

As for the reason behind his arrest, his family states that Zebari submitted his resignation from the Ministry of Peshmerga seven months prior to the Kurdistan elections, which were held on October 20. Although his resignation was formally rejected, he remained firm in his decision to step down. According to his family, the Ministry’s intelligence unit threatened him with repercussions if he did not return to duty.

They also claim that in the lead-up to the elections, KDP officials offered to promote his military rank if he abandoned his positions—referring to his political stance or activism—but he refused.

Islam Zebari, a Peshmerga officer and prominent member of the Halwest Movement in Duhok’s Akre city, was detained today by KDP security forces.

The exact reason for his arrest remains unclear. However, Zebari is known for his outspoken criticism of the Turkish military presence in the area, as well as for highlighting corruption within the Ministry of Peshmerga. He holds a military degree and was a Halwest Movement candidate in Duhok.
