The Orioles do so, so many frustrating and demoralizing things it’s hard to pick my least favorite.

They get off to slow starts offensively, allowing the opposing starter to settle into a groove and help out the opposing bullpen.

They allow runs early, putting strain on the starters, shortening starts, putting comeback pressure on the offense, and allowing opposing teams to build momentum.

They are among the worst in the league allowing offensive production when they have two strikes on a batter. Where a batter should be on the ropes, the Orioles remove their own advantage.

They allow substantial production to the bottom of opposing lineups. The batters that should be auto outs, often with OPSs below .600, simply aren’t auto outs. They let guys beat them who have no business beating anyone.

They don’t get leadoff hitters on. They squash rallies before they even start. They don’t put pressure on opposing pitchers.

The leadoff hitters that do reach get eliminated on double plays. They make sure your excitement and anticipation of a huge inning are squashed.

They allow runs immediately after they score themselves. They ensure momentum does not stay with them for more than half an inning. They allow teams demoralized by allowing runs to get right back into the ballgame.

They don’t compile wins. They don’t go on 12-1 stretches. They put together a nice win then they pat themselves on the back and roll over pathetically the rest of the week.

And this isn’t even a conclusive list. Every possible thing the Orioles could do slightly wrong on the margins, they do.

It seems like if they could only figure one or two of these out, they’d be a game or two above .500. But they can’t.

Every little thing is just deflating.
