Working with the @lisaslo & the LT team & everyone else: What a pleasure. Clarity and intelligence abound. And so this materializes in the world at a time when the circulating currents are quite strange indeed. Thank you to all. And peace and health and serenity too.
I am in a feminist group that has been struggling with transphobia emerging as some cis women wanting to have cis women-only events. A friend wrote a thoughtful email to the group & let me post it in case it is useful to others engaged in such struggles. https://t.co/BJ2c9C5zQ6
When I hear folks like Rhonda, Elvis, @zinelib, @violetbfox talk zine librarianship, ethics, the anarchist/social justice perspective I am reminded why I became a librarian: Its the most punk rock job around (ish...) & my 1990s teen self feels fully arrived #ACRLNY19
Decolonizing & unlearning: an intentional & ongoing process. Open pedagogy can be a tool & a strategy for resistance but this takes mindful, dillegent, critical work #ACRLNY19
“OER” rhetoric was conceived to be business friendly. Another example of the dangers of slippery language, Ed tech, market logic, academic capitalism, etc. What does “open” really mean? For academia? For libraries? For thought? #ACRLNY19
Settler colonialism cannot be negotiated. Must be resisted completely. In the Open Pedagogy symposium, vision was re-imagined completely: Center students, folks of color & pay students to attend. This is an example of real diversity work: It fundamentally reframes #ACRLNY19
Articulating a vision, fostering dialog, developing a shared vocabulary & building community so as to move toward action and together to dismantle harmful power structures AND the power of the one to one relationship! #ACRLNY19 fodder from session one!
It was a pleasure to think out loud with these wickedly smart folks about a prefigurative, radical,ally-y, librarianship built on mutual aid and all the rest. And also to look toward the history; the young lords, the black panthers...humbling and galvanizing. Thank you to #mii
Taking up the urgency in the pedestrian with @violetbfox@RashidKit & @xsublibrarian at @The_Maintainers#miii "No Gods, No Masters, and Instead Coalitional, Honest, Kind, Non-Abusive, Anti-Oppressive, Real-Deal, On the Ground, Radical Librarianship" https://t.co/vJGorRcmkL
