What is the difference between Syria and Yemen?

In Yemen, all the Gulf countries used to look at Yemenis as outcasts — poor, hungry, barefoot, naked and worth less than others — until the leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi (HA) came to them.

Abdul-Malik didn’t give them money or bread. He gave them dignity, pride and honour.

Who is this man who imposed an equation on Saudi Arabia — which considers itself the master of everyone in the Arabian Peninsula — blockade for blockade, airport for airport? He turned them into a people who manufacture missiles, solid fuel and drones. He made them a strong country. Do you realise that people across the region have begun proudly calling them the Yemeni forces, not the Houthi forces?

This is what a courageous, wise resistance leader does.

In Syria today, it is completely the opposite.

Before Ahmad al Sharaa, Syrians were the Arab people who felt the greatest sense of dignity and pride. They took pride in a strong army and a safe country, and would boast to other Arabs about their strong resistant leader not bowing to America and Israel and who openly supported all resistance movements without fearing anyone.

Then Ahmad al Sharaa came. The first thing he did was make an agreement with Israel without gaining anything in return, except, being allowed to remain in power. He turned his country’s army into a dilapidated, disarmed force whose strength is used only against minorities because that is all they are permitted to do.

He turned his supporters and his people into people without dignity before Turkey and Israel, to the point that if you ask a Syrian citizen, he will tell you: ‘If I could leave this country, even for somewhere like Somalia, it would be better than staying here.’

That is the difference between a leader who instils courage, dignity and honour in his people, and a defeated, weak, submissive puppet leader who brings his people nothing but humiliation and shame.
