The immediate backlash online against some of the BTS members J-Hope and Namjoon simply for attending an R&B concert and taking a picture with Chris Brown is a prime example of internet moral policing gone completely overboard. The toxic narrative trying to paint two grown men as suddenly "problematic" or "supporting abuse" because they met up with a massive musical contemporary is exhausting, hypocritical, and completely disconnected from how the entertainment industry works.
As a critic of this performative outrage, it is time to inject some reality and nuance into the conversation.
1. It is About the Music, Period
J-Hope and RM are, first and foremost, world-class musical artists, dancers, and hip-hop/R&B fans. Chris Brown, regardless of his highly publicized and heavily scrutinized personal history, is undeniably one of the most influential dancers and R&B performers of this generation.
•For J-Hope, a dancer who has dedicated his life to hip-hop choreography, witnessing the Usher and Chris Brown R&B Tour live is purely a matter of professional appreciation.
•Taking a photo backstage with a peer or a major global artist at a concert is standard industry behavior. It is not a political endorsement, nor is it a stamp of approval on anyone's personal mistakes.
2. The Hypocrisy of Selective Outrage
The internet loves to treat BTS like they live in an isolated bubble where they must maintain a flawless, untouchable moral standard that no other Western artist is forced to uphold.
•Major Western artists across the entire music industry including Rihanna herself, who later collaborated and reconciled with Chris Brown have worked with, hung out with, or publicly praised him.
•To suggest that J-Hope and Namjoon are uniquely "disappointing" or "betraying their morals" by taking a backstage photo is a massive, unfair double standard.
3. Grown Men Making Professional Choices
J-Hope and RM are grown men in their late 20s and early 30s. They are not characters in a curated fantasy narrative designed to perfectly coddle the internet's sensitivities. They are global music executives and performers navigating the real-world music industry. They have the absolute right to attend a concert, appreciate live music, and network with other major entities like Usher and Chris Brown without having their entire moral character assassinated by overreactive netizens.
The attempt to twist a fun, cross-cultural musical link-up into a narrative about condoning domestic violence is an Olympic-level stretch. It is entirely possible to separate an artist's personal past from their professional impact, and that is exactly what the Tannies are doing.

J-HOPE ON SUNLIGHT #협찬 제이홉 #jhope IN #AudemarsPiguet WITH #Dazedkorea The Cover for 2026 AUGUST Issue of <DAZED> KOREA 어쩌면 가장 극적인 반전은 눈부신 태양 아래 홀로 버텨낸 그 뜨거운 시간들로부터. 여름이 여름이라고 외치는 지금, 가장 뜨거운 계절이 만드는 가장 강한 사람에 대하여. 여름, 제이홉.
Perhaps the greatest transformation comes from enduring those blazing days beneath the dazzling sun. As summer boldly declares itself, a story of the strongest season shaping the strongest person. Summer, J-HOPE.

J-HOPE ON TIME #협찬 제이홉 #jhope IN #AudemarsPiguet WITH #Dazedkorea The Cover for 2026 AUGUST Issue of <DAZED> KOREA 다가오는 시간을 붙잡기. 그리곤 순간순간 즐기기. 곱게, 덧없게. 시간의 무게를 곱씹어가며, 하지만 가볍게 이겨내며. 〈데이즈드〉와 제이홉이 만난 시간.
Holding on to the time that slips away. Then savoring each fleeting moment, gracefully, transiently. Reflecting on the weight of time, yet carrying it with lightness. The time <DAZED> KOREA shared with J-HOPE.
