@FennellJW Good article, but I believe that the issued DeLisle was in .45 calibre using the same ammo and magazine as the handgun. A prototype was in .22
@Gabriel64869839 Even that 'Traditional' 20% gets its lethality by firing consumable munitions such as bullets, shells and missiles. The whole 20 40 40 is nonsense.
@gregbagwell There was a lot of delay in publishing the SDR. It was assumed that was about affordability, when in fact the document didn't go into costs. I think they just like to keep everyone waiting, and waiting....
@nicholadrummond Old style HSF which only defended against ground threats won't be enough. They will also need to defend against UAVs launched from miles away.
@salisbot White Papers were literally just that. Black text on white paper. But they did contain lots of facts and figures. Whilst full of cuts the 1957 and 1975 white papers gave real numbers of personnel, units, squadrons and ships. Now the IRR and DCP are just glossy pics and waffle.
@nicholadrummond A better comparison for UK would be Australia and Canada. Similar histories, traditions and strategic situation.
Australia has 4 regular brigades from an army of under 30k. Canada has 3 brigades from around 23k army.
Both spend less money, yet almost match UK brigade numbers.
