Stell dir vor, der „Friedensplan“ von 1945 hätte so ausgesehen:
🇵🇱 Polen gibt Schlesien an Hitler-Deutschland zurück
🇫🇷 Frankreich halbiert seine Armee
⚖️ Nazi-Kriegsverbrecher erhalten Amnestie
🔻 Kriegsverbrecher sollen Amnestie bekommen.
🔻 Russland soll vollständig in die Weltwirtschaft zurückkehren – also: Sanktions-Ende.
🔻 Ukraine soll die umkämpften Gebiete Donezk & Luhansk abtreten.
🔻 Ukraine soll ihre Armee halbieren.
🔻 Russisch soll als Staatssprache etabliert werden.
🔻 Krim bleibt dauerhaft annektiert.
There has been proposal by the future Trump administration which considers the creation of a demilitarized zone between Ukrainian and Russian forces along the line of contact and patrolled by European armies. We are talking about 1,800 km (1,100 miles) and this does not even include Belarus. There has been already voices who call this not feasible and this is correct. The line of contact is way too long and Europe must field more troops than it effectively has to cover that all. Yet, this proposal if genuine offers a great opportunity for Ukraine, because it includes something far more interesting.
The plan is not feasible, not primarily because of the buffer zone, but because of the biggest obstacle, which is Russia. Russia has started the war because it wanted to prevent Ukraine from being part of NATO. With European armies, most of them NATO members, moving inside 80% of Ukraine this would effectively mean that Ukraine is part of NATO. Not in 20 years, but right from the start. Russia couldn't wage war in Ukraine any more without waging war against European armies and by extension NATO. This is where we want to move, and which Moscow will fight tooth and nail.
Reflecting that Russia didn't achieve even one strategic goal since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, having NATO armies along the borders Bryansk, Kursk (inside?) and Belgorod, plus in Ukrainian regions which Russia considers Russian, would be the icing of the cake. If Moscow would agree to this, Putin's signature would allow the very thing happening he was trying to prevent, making all the huge sacrifices Russia has made in vain. This huge failure couldn't be overlooked even in Russia's tightly controlled information space. It would be nothing short of an epic failure and defeat.
For Russia, this is a bad proposal, even when it would mean that Russia could keep temporarily the conquered territories. And this is the beauty of the proposal. Moscow will probably reject the plan and catch the anger of the Trump administration which wants results as soon as possible. If Trump cannot achieve that and Russia is responsible for the failure, then it might give Ukraine enough political leverage to get even more and better weapons. Ukraine could easily argue that it needs those weapons in order to force Russia to comply to a political settlement, which in return, however, will never come to fruit. The war would go on, but this time with better supplies from the West. It would drive the Russian war machine eventually beyond capacity.
Of course, there are a lot of speculations and uncertainties, especially when we have to consider how serious that proposal is, but currently I see more problems for Russia than for Ukraine, if this is the case. Ukraine will never recognize those occupied areas Russian, but it does not have to, since this is basically a ceasefire.
This proposal shows how extremely difficult and - even on Russia's part - risky the whole situation is. As I mentioned before, Russia cannot sustain this war forever. The Russian arsenals are getting burnt down on an astronomical scale and their push into Ukraine is way too slow in order to be of strategic value. Ukrainian forces still control vast areas of the Donbas and even control Russian lands in Kursk. In fact, the situation in Kursk is another hard pill to swallow for Putin, emphasizing once again that the incursion into Russia is less of military value, but immeasurable when it comes to the political and diplomatic costs imposed on the Russian regime. There is no way that Moscow can accept a foreign force on Russian soil, not even within the framework of a ceasefire, and Ukraine knows that, making this entire area worth in gold.
On a personal note, having European troops in Ukraine was a proposal I made only a few days ago. My idea behind that has been generally the same. The confrontation with Russia is unavoidable, so the earlier we come to this conclusion the better. Once the blockade by European armies has been established, Russia will be faced with a lost war. Moscow will put all effort to continue this war as long as it cans, but there are limits which will be soon felt across the Russian army. Calling for a pause is something Putin is certainly already thinking, for the reasons I stated before. Eventually, he will not have a choice then to agree to this or this kind of a plan, or face full collapse in less than two years, anyway.
Having European armies in Ukraine will have a catalyst effect on the Russian government, which would be faced not only with a lost war, but a shattered economy, skyrocketing interests rates and hyperinflation. If the Trump administration orders also to start drilling oil in order to push inflation down in the USA - and by doing so also the oil price - then Putin-Russia will be exposed with a perfect storm. We had a similar situation back in the late 1980s with the well-known results.
I know that there will be certainly those who will say that Trump will do whatever it takes to please Putin, and would go to whatever end to strong-arm Ukraine to do what Putin wants. I will be very honest with you. I can hardly imagine that for one simple reason: It wouldn't benefit Trump at all and in fact would backfire. Trump has literally no use for Putin any more. He will be soon in the White House, accompanied with two Republican chambers in the Congress. Despite Russian interference it was a clear win. Period. Trump owes Putin nothing and is freed from all constraints. Giving up on Ukraine and causing huge turmoil in Europe with repercussions which could go all the way up that European allies might stop buying US military goods, is nothing Trump wants or even has to risk.
Additionally, the support for Ukraine in the USA is afterall bipartisan and supported by many Republicans. Trump would gain nothing in antagonizing them. All what Trump wants, is to be seen as a deal maker. He will certainly push that Europe pays its fair share, but this is something what many, including myself, are already pushing. Having European armies protecting Ukraine is one of those steps and it makes in this context absolute sense. Therefore I'm inclined to believe that this proposal is genuine.
All what it takes, now, is that Ukrainians insist on these European armies, when negotiating. It is irrelevant how many will be available or where to deploy them, as long as Russia rejects it in the beginning, but then eventually yields to that demand because deteriorating situation on the ground. Trump just gave them an excellent opening to push for this outcome.

@Clodagh_Lunaria Meadery, for sure! Just queue for it, takes about 2min. Dungeon takes 5-10min. And you get some more loot. Also it can be done as normal dungeon, so if you don’t need the heroic items it can be even faster. Did that on all my Alts was done in less than an hour.
