One of the best analogy on overnight success I’ve come across is that of the Chinese bamboo.

You plant a Chinese bamboo seed and water it every day. For the first year, nothing appears above ground. You keep watering, Still nothing in year two. Same in years three and four. By year five, many people give up, assuming the seed was dead.

Then, in roughly the sixth week of the fifth year, the bamboo shoots up growing as much as 90 feet in just six weeks!! The plant was building a massive, deep root system underground the entire time. Once that foundation was ready, the visible growth became explosive.

Those who saw the bamboo after it’s growth might believe it was so sudden and overnight because it took six weeks to grow by 90 feet. But the person who watered it, knew he stayed consistent for 5 years with no signs before he saw results.

You’re probably in your fifth year and you have zero idea, keep your head up! You might be six weeks away from your explosive growth.

naviband is a screen-free navigation wearable built around a simple idea: your phone already knows where you’re going. you shouldn’t have to keep staring at it to get there. this is ideally for on-campus usage for freshers.

the phone handles gps, maps and routing, then sends the directions to naviband over bluetooth. two independent vibration motors translate those directions into left/right haptic cues, so you can keep walking without constantly pulling your phone out.

i designed the pcb around that use case: > nrf52840 ble
> imu
> dual haptic drivers
> battery management
> usb-c charging
> button input
> battery monitoring.

it is a small board and simple interaction, but a pretty useful problem to solve.
