A few years ago, my friends invited me on a ski trip.
I declined.
Couldn't afford it.
One of them immediately said:
"Come anyway."
I said no again.
He kept pushing.
Finally I admitted the truth:
"I have $43 in my bank account."
Nobody replied.
The group chat went silent.
A few minutes later one friend sent $50.
Then another sent $20.
Then another.
By the end of the night there was enough money for the trip.
I felt terrible.
I told them I'd pay everyone back.
One friend replied:
"Don't."
Another said:
"Just do it for somebody else when it's your turn."
That was 8 years ago.
I've paid for plane tickets.
Covered rent.
Bought groceries.
Helped people who never knew the story.
And honestly...
the most valuable thing my friends gave me wasn't the money.
It was the chance to stop feeling ashamed for needing help.
The UK economy basically works like this:
Get paid £2,000.
Give £900 to a landlord. Give £200 to the council. Give £150 to energy companies. Give £300 to supermarkets. Give £300 to car insurance and fuel.
Spend the rest surviving until next payday.
Then get lectured by someone who bought their house for £37,000 in 1988 about how you need to stop buying coffees and cancel subscriptions.
London is missing a place where you can rave, and watch The World Cup matches until around 6am. It’s sorely missing late night spaces. I’d love to be in Barcelona right now. I just KNOW there’s places open until fuck off o’clock with ridiculously huge screens
The 9-to-5 system should be completely abolished. Workdays should be 10-3 or 9-2. There’s no reason people should spend most of their lives at work. Let people go home and have time for their families, partners, friends, and rest. This is why so many people hate their jobs.
Last week the UK was 30 degrees.
Roads were melting.
Everyone was sunburnt.
Gingers were catching fire on the street.
This week the country's underwater.
The roads are rivers.
My house is flooding.
And I've just seen Noah float by in his fucking Ark.
There is no way this is the same country.
you don’t understand how refreshing it is to see a 58-year-old woman on my screen that has lines and wrinkles and a full life lived written across her face
ruth gemmell, you are fine as fuck
Fun Fact :
Rihanna gave Drake his first #1 with "What's My Name" and it was her 8th #1 at the time.
Years later she gave him his second #1 with "Work", making it her 14th #1 overall.
My grandfather said he’d never move into a retirement home.
He said, “Too expensive… and the food tastes like someone boiled sadness.”
Instead, he checked into a beachfront hotel.
We asked, “Grandpa, isn’t that even more expensive?”
He smiled and said, “Not really.
At the retirement home, I’d pay $200 a day for cold meatloaf and no visitors.
But here? For $150 a day, I get ocean views, room service, fresh towels, a pool…
…and suddenly all my grandkids remember I exist every weekend.”
Then he leaned back in his chair and delivered the final line like a mob boss:
“And if I die in the hotel lobby, the manager will actually look disappointed.
But at the nursing home? They just call it Tuesday.”
