Everyone talks about Buddhism as this beautiful religion of peace, love and compassion. Serene monks, beautiful temples, kindness to all beings.

But then you see what actually happens. In Myanmar, Buddhists chased out the Rohingyas. In Sri Lanka, Buddhist monks lead pogroms against Tamils and Muslims and threaten to cut them into pieces.

Where is the compassion? It disappears when the victims are not Buddhist.

That is Sinhala Buddhism in a nutshell.

They hide behind Buddhism to pretend otherwise, but when they were the ones responsible for the killing of over 40,000 Tamil civilians in the Mullivaikkal massacre, one of the deadliest single episodes of civilian killing this century, and then called it a "humanitarian operation" when even the UN was shocked, it says everything about Sinhala Buddhism.

Yet they conveniently ignore the fact that they themselves carry Portuguese and Dutch surnames like Perera, Fernando, de Silva, Fonseka, Peiris, Rodrigo, De Saram, Jansz, Philipsz, Van Dort and many more names their ancestors adopted after converting and often intermarrying with the colonizers, many even using them to hide their recent South Indian origins.

Meanwhile, the so-called “collaborators” mostly kept their traditional Tamil names.

The irony is absolutely insane.
