they were mutual peers, without denying that Imam Ja'far was in knowledge arguably superior; acknowledging how he benefited the other Imam. None of this necessitates the Salaf's teacher-student thesis.

In-fact, if you had paid attention, I explicitly said that he wasn't a teacher in the strict sense. Imam Baqir, sure, not Imam Ja'far.
