Ahora resulta que JOHN BOLTON es presentado como referencia confiable para hablar de Venezuela.

¿Ya olvidaron quién es Bolton?

Fue Asesor de Seguridad Nacional del presidente Trump durante su primera administración y una de las principales figuras detrás de la política estadounidense hacia Venezuela en 2018–2019.

Bolton le dijo a Trump que debajo de ninguna circunstancia se metiera en Venezuela.

Pero hay algo mucho más reciente que convenientemente algunos parecen olvidar:

👉 John Bolton SE DECLARÓ CULPABLE de retener deliberadamente información de defensa nacional.

Estamos hablando de un ex Asesor de Seguridad Nacional con acceso a algunos de los secretos más sensibles de Estados Unidos, quien terminó admitiendo ante un tribunal federal que manejó ilegalmente información de seguridad nacional.

Y después de abandonar la Casa Blanca se convirtió en uno de los críticos más feroces del mismo presidente Trump bajo quien había servido.

Ahora nos quieren vender sus opiniones sobre Venezuela como palabra autorizada e incuestionable.

Una cosa es citar a Bolton. Otra muy distinta es ocultarle a la audiencia todo el contexto sobre quién habla, su historial y su reciente declaración de culpabilidad.

Ese contexto también importa.

Patricia, me preocupa profundamente este mensaje porque, tal como está escrito, usted presenta una narrativa profundamente sesgada de lo que realmente se ha anunciado.

No se suspendieron todas las citas para solicitar visas en todas las embajadas estadounidenses. La medida anunciada se refiere a visas de inmigrante. Tampoco es lo mismo decir que aproximadamente 200,000 casos están sujetos a revisión que afirmar que 200,000 visas ya fueron canceladas.

Pero hay algo que me preocupa todavía más, particularmente viniendo de una periodista con su trayectoria:, la manera en que presenta el caso de Viviana Marín Carmona.

Según el propio caso que usted cita, no estamos hablando simplemente de una ciudadana colombiana que expresó una opinión crítica sobre un gobierno. Estamos hablando de una dirigente de las Juventudes Comunistas Colombianas que públicamente llamó a movilizarse para hacer al país “invivible” para un presidente electo.

Presentarla simplemente como víctima de una política estadounidense contra quienes “critican a gobiernos aliados a Trump” elimina deliberadamente de la ecuación el contexto que hace relevante su caso.

Ese contexto importa. Y usted la presenta como una guerrera de libertad.

Estados Unidos tiene todo el derecho de determinar quién reúne los requisitos para recibir o conservar una visa. Una visa estadounidense no es un derecho constitucional de un ciudadano extranjero. No preste 37 años de mi vida para pelear contra enemigos comunistas para dejarlos entrar en mi país como una burla.

Estamos cansados de observar a activistas políticos que condenan nuestro sistema, nuestras instituciones y nuestra forma de vida mientras, simultáneamente, pretenden disfrutar del privilegio de entrar o permanecer en Estados Unidos y trasladar aquí las mismas prácticas de confrontación política que promueven en sus propios países. Y estamos aún más cansados de personajes como usted lavarles las caras.

Se puede estar en desacuerdo con la política migratoria de esta administración. Eso es legítimo.

Pero convertir a una operadora política que exhortó públicamente a crear ingobernabilidad contra un presidente electo en una simple “víctima por criticar a un gobierno aliado de Trump” no es contexto.

Usted le está construyendo una narrativa.

Y viniendo de una periodista de su trayectoria, eso debería preocuparnos mucho más.

Of course, Betancourt has billions of dollars obtained through corruption to pay lawyers, lobbyists, media outlets, smear campaigns against those who expose him, and orchestrated campaigns to whitewash his image. Betancourt can do all of that. But do you know what he cannot do? Cover up the truth, erase the past, or make people forget that their misery is directly connected to what he did in complicity with the criminal system known as Chavismo.

Thousands of Venezuelans have died in the country’s hospitals because of power outages during critical moments. Many others have died as a result of the economic devastation this has caused. That cannot be forgotten or erased.

For Venezuela to truly recover, transition to democracy, and become a stable long-term ally of the United States, it needs more than free elections. It also needs to confront impunity and undertake an open and transparent privatization process that excludes actors linked to Chavismo. Otherwise, we risk becoming a new Russia: a country dominated by oligarchs from the old system, with an authoritarian regime that may evolve in form but remains unchanged in essence—and that, more than 30 years later, is still one of the United States’ principal enemies.

We genuinely want Venezuela to become a legitimate ally of the United States in energy, security, and geopolitical matters. We are the ones who have spent decades exposing and calling for the dismantling of the narco-terrorist cartels in the region that have killed hundreds of thousands of Americans through drugs and were led from Venezuela by Maduro, Delcy, Diosdado, and their associates—the very same people who worked with Betancourt and allowed him to amass his wealth. That is precisely why we understand the grave mistake this represents, not only for Venezuela and Venezuelans, but above all for the national security of the United States for decades to come.

History should serve precisely this purpose: to help us recognize our mistakes and avoid repeating them.
