₦500 million Cash Inducement?

Reports from Abuja claim that efforts were made throughout today to persuade the Chief Imam of Nigeria, Sheikh Prof. Ibrahim Maqari, to accept a cash payment of ₦500 million to appear on the pulpit and publicly support Tinubu re-election bid.

However, he reportedly rejected the offer. Some of his associates said the request was not necessarily for him to campaign for Tinubu, but simply to publicly tell Nigerians to allow Tinubu to complete his four-year term, as some organisations and prominent Islamic scholars in Nigeria have done.

According to the report, Maqari stood his ground and said that if that was the condition, he would rather be removed from his position as Chief Imam.
