Claudia Sheinbaum was also seen as a dubious successor lacking in charisma, and people questioned whether Mexicans would vote for a woman and a Jew. But she offered a very specific set of left-populist policy programs that people liked and won in a landslide.
Despair thrives in isolation, but dies in organization.
DSA is a political home for me and thousands of New Yorkers, many of whom were on the streets today.
Build the left, fight the right, and join DSA: https://t.co/SLL3q3BIk5
Back in the real world, the difference is that Morena, whatever its flaws and limitations, has delivered the goods with significant gains for the Mexican working class.
A useful summary from @rojasrjuand:
I was the co chair of my DSA chapter for almost the entire Trump presidency. Some advice - don’t waste time and energy on internal squabbles. Of course it’s important to debate and disagree as we articulate our socialist vision. But remember to keep your eyes on the prize
@EricLevitz I think the best argument is to think a little bigger, past maybe just one election cycle. Something like Greg Grandin said he would be arguing in his next book. That class-driven campaigning for social democracy is what’s necessary to combat Trump’s brand of politics.
So apparently the Kamala campaign entrusted final say on their $700 million ad budget to a man who gave himself brain damage hosting ketamine parties in his Manhattan loft and somehow this is the fault of the .4% of the country who voted for jill stein
Guy gets his platonic campaign: messaging is shaped by his ‘popularism’ confederate David Shor, Harris almost never mentions her identity, he gets yimby rhetoric, police and border demagoguery, microtargeted consultant speak—his ideal campaign!—and he’s still blaming the wokes!
Bernie Sanders in statement issued as Harris is about to give her concession speech:
"It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them."
Staggering class realignment/shift in working class
Harris lost DESPITE major shift of affluent voters her way
