The UN International MSME Day serves as a vital reminder of the power of small businesses as engines of sustainable growth and pillars of local employment worldwide.
As the world commemorates the UN International Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Day 2026, @mtic_uganda together with partners celebrated the day during the UG Catalyst Summit at MoTIV Bugolobi in Kampala. In his remarks as Guest of Honour, Hon. @dbahati, State Minister for Industry, joined the global community in celebrating the 9th anniversary since the UN designated June 27 as MSME Day in 2017.
He highlighted that Uganda's MSME sector comprises about 1 million enterprises, contributing 75% of GDP and employing 2.5 million people (90% of the non-farm private sector workforce). However, he highlighted that 1/5 msmes fail within their first year, while over 50% remain informal due to limited knowledge, lack of credit, poor record keeping, and mindset challenges.
On the 27th of June, it is the World MSME day. YALDA Uganda is joining the Ministry of Trade, Industry and cooperatives (MTIC) and other partners in celebration and recognition of the outstanding MSMEs.
