Delta operators in the opening years of the Global War on Terror. Clean cut, short hair, mostly trimmed faces. Back when looking like a Tier 1 operator didn’t yet mean looking like a roadie for a metal band. The beards came later, born of necessity in Afghanistan and Iraq, where blending with locals mattered more than military bearing. But in 2002 and 2003, the Unit still had one foot in the Cold War aesthetic. The work was changing faster than the look.
