I officially inaugurated the Land Protection Task Force, commencing critical operations in the Greater Accra Region.

This strategic, 20-member Greater Accra Regional Task Force unit draws together the specialized expertise of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Lands Commission, the Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana Armed Forces.

Their core mandate is to protect and preserve all public lands owned by the state.
Operating with full enforcement backing, the task force is charged with continuous monitoring, rigorous inspection, and active surveillance across the region.

I have firmly charged every member of this task force to discharge their duties with the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and absolute adherence to the rule of law.

We have successfully launched the Responsible Cooperative Mining initiative for the Akyem Kotoku area in the Eastern Region today.

As part of our ongoing efforts to provide viable economic alternatives and curb the menace of illegal mining, we have successfully trained approximately 500 local youth in responsible mining practices.
These participants have been awarded certificates, fully equipping and preparing them to engage in legal, regulated mining operations.

The Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) will continue to work closely with regulatory bodies to ensure that all cooperatives uphold the sustainable practices they have been comprehensively trained to implement.

I extend my profound appreciation to the Paramount Chief of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Oseadeeyo Dr. Frimpong Manso IV, and the good people of the community for their immense cooperation and partnership in bringing this vital project to fruition.

Beyond the Flag: Sustaining the Dignity of the Black Star at 69.

Today, 6th March 2026, we mark a monumental milestone. 69 years since the Black Star was hoisted into the heavens, signaling the dawn of African liberation.

Sixty-nine years ago, the British Union Jack was lowered for the final time, and our cherished Black Star was raised.
That moment was the rebirth of dignity for the first nation in sub-Saharan Africa to break the shackles of colonial rule.

On this solemn and celebratory day, we must cast our minds back to the midnight of March 6, 1957.
We remember the polo grounds in Accra.
At the centre of that historic moment stood a man of unparalleled vision and relentless determination, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

While the tree of liberty was watered by many, Kwame Nkrumah was the architect, the driving force, and the indisputable founding father of modern Ghana .
He was the strategist who mobilized the masses, challenged the colonial edifice, and gave political articulation to our collective desire for freedom.

True independence is not a destination reached in 1957. It is a continuous journey.
As we celebrate, we must ask ourselves: How do we bridge the gap between our potential and our reality?

Beyond the Flag, we must move from political freedom to economic sovereignty.
The "Self-Government Now" of 1957 must become the "Innovation and Economic Transformation Now" of 2026 and beyond.

As we celebrate today, let us renew our vow to the "Service of Ghana."
The work of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and the giants before us is unfinished and it is now in our hands.

May the Black Star continue to shine. And may God bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong.

Today, I officially inaugurated the National Timber Monitoring Team, a specialized task force mandated to oversee all timber-related activities within our national forest reserves

I have charged the appointed members to execute their mandate with the utmost diligence and integrity.
This critical unit will serve as our frontline defense to eliminate the scourge of illegal logging, prevent the encroachment and degradation of our forest reserves, and ensure strict adherence to all forestry laws and sustainable management principles.

This initiative is a strategic pivot towards a revitalized timber sector.
We are committed to resetting the industry on a path of transparency, sustainability, and high efficiency through robust monitoring and enforcement.

Protection of our forest is a shared responsibility.

I was pleased today to receive, a donation of GHS 5 million and five Toyota Hilux vehicles from the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) led by its CEO, Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi to bolster our fight against illegal mining.

This significant contribution will be immediately deployed to empower the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).
As the central command in this arduous fight, NAIMOS will use these resources to coordinate our national response with greater agility and force.

I seized the opportunity to reiterate the Government's unflinching commitment to cracking down on the menace of illegal mining.
Our vigorous efforts are focused on healing our decimated environment and promoting only responsible and sustainable mining practices that benefit all Ghanaians.

I had the honor of joining the National Chairman of the NDC, Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the Western Regional Chairman, Nana Toku, and the Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson, in celebrating with the good people of Axim at the grand durbar and climax of this year's Kundum festival.

The Kundum festival, celebrated annually by the Nzema and Ahanta people is a cardinal occasion that unites everyone to promote and preserve our rich cultural heritage.

To the eminent Paramount Chiefs of both the Upper and Lower Axim Traditional Councils, all chiefs and the good people of Axim, I say Ayekoo for a magnificent celebration.

Yesterday , the Western Regional House of Chiefs, led by Nana Kobina Nketsia V ,Paramount Chief of the Essikado Traditional Area, alongside the various paramount chiefs, divisional chiefs, and government officials from the Western Region, paid a courtesy visit to H.E. President John Dramani Mahama at the Flagstaff House.

The visit served as an opportunity to extend goodwill to the President and engage in constructive discussions on the development of the Western Region.

President Mahama reaffirmed his steadfast commitment to driving transformation within in the Western Region, given its strategic importance.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CONDEMNATION OF INVASION OF BEKWAI DISTRICT OFFICE OF FORESTRY COMMISSION

Earlier today, I received reports on the brazen and unlawful closure of the Bekwai District Office of the Forestry Commission by persons masquerading as National Security operatives in the Ashanti Region.

As Sector Minister, I am deeply appalled by this incident and strongly condemn the invasion in no uncertain terms.

Indeed, such acts of lawlessness undermine the rule of law, threaten public peace and tarnish the integrity of institutions like the National Security — and must not be allowed to fester.

On that note, I call on all relevant law enforcement agencies to swiftly apprehend and prosecute all those involved in the said illegality.

This will serve as a strong deterrent to other unscrupulous persons who may harbour similar intentions.

I concluded a landmark engagement in China last week that will fundamentally transform our manganese industry.
The forthcoming Nsuta-Tarkwa refinery represents the crystallization of our value-addition agenda - transitioning Ghana from a mere raw material exporter to sophisticated mineral processor.

In line with our new export value-addition policy, the Ghana Manganese Company (GMC), which is 90% owned by Tianyuan Manganese Industry (TMI), is set to establish a local Manganese Refinery Plant (MRP) that will significantly upgrade ore quality and produce high-grade manganese products for export.

I took the opportunity to tour TMI’s state-of-the-art industrial complex.
The industrial complex showcased various facilities, including a Manganese Refinery Park and a Logistics Park, which serve as a hub for manganese shipments from Ghana and beyond.

The significance of Republic Day, is the bedrock upon which our modern nation firmly stands.
It marks the ultimate realization of our hard-won sovereignty, the day we assumed absolute control over our political life, economic direction and social fabric.

Today, as we celebrate, let the indomitable spirit of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and the pioneers of our Republic ignite our hearts anew.

Let us strive together to make this Republic ever stronger, ever brighter, ever more true to the dreams that birthed it.
