Amaryllis tip: size counts.

Buy the biggest bulb, pot it an inch wider than the bulb with the shoulders showing, and give it bright light.

About eight weeks after the green tips show, it blooms.

Watering at noon won't burn your plants. Plain water never has.

The "drops act like magnifying glasses" thing is a myth. What burns leaves is fertilizer or pest spray in direct sun.

Flowers wilting at lunch can have the hose. No guilt.

Every bromeliad flowers once in its lifetime. One show, no encore. But the bloom lasts two to six months, then baby plants appear at the base. Cut them free at six inches and pot them up.
