I’m deeply saddened by the passing of Haji Hassan Ega-Musa, who died at his home in Eastleigh last night at the age of 96 and was laid to rest this afternoon at Lang’ata Muslim Cemetery.

Haji Hassan lived a long, happy and full life. He was an important pillar of our community, and he will be deeply missed. For those of us who knew him, Eastleigh feels a little quieter today.

He was the last patriarch of the Ega-Musa family, Somali pioneers who helped establish Eastleigh estate and put down deep social and economic roots in Nairobi and across Kenya at the turn of the last century. Their story is part of our story.

I send my heartfelt condolences to his family and to the wider Ega-Musa family here at home and around the world. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this time of grief.

May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus.

My best bet especially for arid areas is maize, wheat & trees (fruits & others). Beans, kunde and other cereals or horticultural crops will get destroyed by excessive moisture and limited sunshine.
Livestock will definitely do well with all the pastures in the fields. Just ensure they're vaccinated/treated against diseases such as RVF, foot/mouth diseases that come with extremely wet weather conditions.

Ethiopia just earned $3 billion from coffee exports, though it is Africa's second-largest exporter behind Uganda, which reported $2.4 billion in April.
The reason for this earnings gap comes down to quality and bean type. Approximately 80% of Uganda's exports consist of lower-priced Robusta beans, which are easier to grow but fetch a lower price globally. Ethiopia, however, exports almost 100% premium Arabica coffee.
Because Ethiopia is the biological birthplace of Arabica, its beans are highly prized for their superior flavour, allowing them to command a massive price premium. Combined with recent quality reforms, Ethiopia makes far more money despite shipping a smaller physical volume of coffee. When will Uganda turn the tables?

Somaliland exported 1.3 million sheep and goats, and 50,00 camels to Saudi Arabia & UAE in the peak Eidul Adha period this year. By volume, this is the largest meat export trade in the world. But Somaliland only earned circa $650 million. By contrast, Australia would've earned $3-5 billion exporting a quarter of the numbers before it banned livestock exports to the Gulf, in a fit of animal welfare Woke ideology. A nimble, dynamic Somaliland would've seen the opportunity, and grasped it to cement and increase in it's market share. It was an open goal, and we did not even see it.
