سوشل میڈیا پر ویڈیو اپلوڈ کرنے پر پاکستانی شہری نوید انور کو دبئی حکومت نے ایک سال سات مہینے قید کی سزا دی، اگست 2025 کو ڈی پورٹ کیا تو ائیرپورٹ سے لاپتا ہوگیا، تفتیشی افسر نے عدالت میں انکشاف کیا کہ ائیرپورٹ حکام کے پاس صرف 25 روز کی سی سی ٹی وی ویڈیو محفوظ رکھنے کی صلاحیت موجود ہے تاہم درخواست گزار نے 9 مہینے کے بعد عدالت سے رجوع کیا ہے اس لیے شہری کی واپسی کی سی سی ٹی وی بھی نہیں مل سکتی۔۔۔!

The recent deportation and detention of dozens of Shia residents in the UAE has highlighted a precarious situation for the community. For many, these expulsions represent a total loss of their life's work and financial stability. This attachment to the region is strong; for instance, an acquaintance of mine even left a secure work visa in the UK to return to the UAE, preferring the lifestyle there.

The crux of the issue lies in a geopolitical perception: many Gulf states view the Shia population as a proxy for the Iranian government. While mainstream Shia clergy often promote inter-sectarian harmony and "Islamic Unity," hence there has been a notable silence regarding the actions of politically active factions.

The Need for a New Dialogue
To prevent this trend from spreading beyond the Middle East, a shift in discourse is necessary:

Clerical Responsibility: Scholars need to move beyond general calls for unity and specifically address the political activities that compromise the safety of the diaspora.

Community Transparency: The Shia majority must vocally distinguish their religious identity from specific foreign political agendas.

Future Risks: Failing to address these perceptions could lead to similar scrutiny and systemic challenges for Shia communities in Europe and other Western regions.

Without a clear and open dialogue from within the community to clarify political loyalties, the socio-economic security of Shias living abroad remains at significant risk.

Iran has reached a point of no return in its foreign policy that transcends religious identity. It may be a hard truth for some Shias to swallow, but Iran's actions are inadvertently heightening pressures on Shias living in Middle East and Western nations, where political pushback against Tehran often results in the unfair treatment of the entire community. And ofen, political opposition to the Iranian state is being used as a pretext to marginalize the broader Shia population.
