"Passion" comes from the Latin “passio” which means "suffering" and "endurance."
So people think that following your passion means doing something you love, when it really means finding something that you are willing to suffer for.
A reason a lot of people aren’t self aware about their character is because we’ve been conditioned to believe that being a bad person requires bad intentions. Most people don’t move through the world trying to hurt others. They’re not waking up plotting damage. So when harm is caused, it’s easy for them to reject the idea that they’ve done something wrong. They don’t connect to the consequences of their behaviour because, in their mind, they weren’t being malicious. The damage they caused doesn’t register as their fault because they view themselves as having a good heart. That self image becomes the shield that stops any deeper reflection from happening.
My heart is with the kidnapped schoolgirls in Kebbi State and with their families who are living through unimaginable fear. Every girl deserves to learn in safety and dignity.
Attacks on education are attacks on our collective future. I stand with all Nigerians demanding the girls’ immediate and safe return. Authorities must take action to protect every child’s right to learn.
The brand value and engagement experienced by Vogue because of a Black British woman writer hired as a freelancer and not a staffer is yet another example of how Black creatives are worth more than these media institutions pay them.
