My first paper was finally published online in @JOC_OL ! We synthesized a series of electroactive [5] and [7]helicenes. Chirality is retained during the synthesis of [7]helicene. Huge thanks to my mentor @Abdusalom and @SwagerGroup
Merging azacoronene with helicenes has led to intriguing electroactive chiral structures and polymers. Our latest paper with Yucheng Fu @ycfu1018 and @SwagerGroup just published in @JOC_OL https://t.co/cJbYSwi5N1
We gathered earlier today for a farewell party for @michocheje and @Abdusalom! Listening to their words was quite an emotional moment for everyone. We hope that you two will succeed in your career following your tenure in the group, and hopefully the nice gifts remind you of us!
Excited to share my work on helical boroles! We report the X-ray structures of the borole monomers and dimers, along with their photophysical and chiroptical properties. Huge thanks to @RJGilliard for his invaluable advices and supports throughout the project.
Congrats to our postdoc @Abdusalom and former visting scholar @ycfu1018 on their most recent Org. Lett. paper! They develop a new family of azacoronene-helicene hybrids and incorporate them into conjugated polymers!
Finally, after more than 4 years of work, our review on #tadf materials is out!!!. The Golden Age of Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence Materials: Design and Exploitation | Chemical Reviews https://t.co/1gOY2Gd2Rv. @StAndrewsChem@StAndrewsOsc
What happens when you put molecular motors, liquid crystals and 3-d printing together? Have a look in our recent @J_A_C_S@Photoresponsive Biomimetic Functions by Light-Driven Molecular Motors in Three Dimensionally Printed Liquid Crystal Elastomers@ led by Guiying Long
Happy 2025. I am looking to hire an organic chemist in my group. No organic electronics experience is required. Just need to be knowledgeable in synthetic methodologies. Please contact me at [email protected]
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Sir Fraser Stoddart, Nobel Laureate and cherished member of @NorthwesternU. His groundbreaking contributions transformed the field of #chemistry and inspired countless scientists worldwide.

Swager Group members current and past congregated for #ISNA20 last week to watch Tim deliver the Nozoe Lecture and see five days of innovative chemistry from the community! Thanks to the organizers for facilitating this reunion and for a wonderful conference!
Prospective graduate students often ask me if they can spend the summer doing research in my lab before their 1st year.
While I value the passion for research that often leads to wanting to work in the summer, I have come to implement a uniform policy that we only have 1st year students start rotations during the Fall rather than the summer before.
It is too hard for me to overlook that the last time I got several months off with few responsibilities was between undergrad and grad school, and I want to enable others to do the same.
I understand that not everyone will be able to do this i.e. some may need to work for financial reasons - but as much as possible, I like to encourage students to take this time off to rest, spend time with friends and family, and pursue their non-academic talents!
We're excited to welcome three first years to the group! Say hello to Rina Krstic, Tiffany Chuang, and Jennifer Pierre-Louis! Looking forward to seeing the exciting new chemistry they'll do!
The group got together yesterday to say goodbye to postdoc Justin (Seok Hee) Han, graduate student Yifan Wu, and visting undergraduate Yucheng Fu. Wishing them all the best in their next endeavors!
