Years ago, I learned my first lesson about bullies: “never run, even if your face is bloodied”.

I also learned that standing up to a bully isn’t just about saving yourself. It’s about protecting the people they would target after you.

Back then, there was one notorious bully. He terrorized everyone. He was the biggest kid around, and he had a group of friends who helped him intimidate others. The truth was, they were afraid of him too. They stayed close because being his friend offered them protection.

But I’ll never forget the day his reign ended.

We were at a public spot, drinking with friends, when he walked over to a young man and began shouting at him. Then he grabbed the young man’s shirt, certain he was about to humiliate another victim.

Instead, something unexpected happened.

The young man grabbed a glass bottle and smashed it against his own head.

Blood streamed down his face.

Then, gripping the jagged bottle, he charged at the bully.

For the first time in my life, I saw the bully run.

The moment he turned his back, something changed in the rest of us. The fear broke. We found our courage, rushed forward, and joined the young man, shouting as we chased the bully away.

It was a glorious day.

I’ve never forgotten it.

I’ll never forget what it felt like to watch the one who had terrorized everyone flee in fear.

All because one person reached the point where he no longer cared what it would cost to stand his ground.

It is a thing of righteous expectation!

A few days ago, I had the privilege of hosting my father and mother at The SWAT Nations Church.

It was a deeply special moment for me.

I come from a heritage of faith, prayer, and service to Jesus Christ. I did not begin this journey alone. Long before I ever stood on a platform to preach, there were people who had already walked ahead of me in prayer and service.

My grandmother served God faithfully until her very last day. On the day she went to be with the Lord, she had still gone to church to clean His house. My aunt finished her race while ministering to the sick.

My father was the one who led me into the experience of being filled with the Holy Spirit. My mother taught me how to pray (and not just pray, but to tarry in God’s presence for long). She belongs to God’s victorious army, an elite company of intercessors. Kai! Mama can pray!

Today, I am grateful that both of them are alive to witness, little by little, the fulfilment of the words they prayed over me and the prophecies they declared concerning my life.

Thank you, Dad and Mum, for your sacrifices, your prayers, your discipline, your love, and your unwavering commitment to Christ. Whatever grace people see at work in my life today has been watered by your tears, your faith, and your obedience to God.

I honour you both, and I pray that the Lord rewards you openly for every seed you have sown into my life and into His Kingdom.

And that he keeps you for longer, so you can see much more of your prophecies over me come to pass.

I love you dearly.

There’s a subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) emphasis on “getting married” and “relationships” from many church pulpits that sounds harmless, but I think it deserves a second look.

Too often, the conversation seems less about building healthy marriages and more about creating stable church families, retaining members, and growing attendance through the “beauty of intra-church marriage”.

The result?

Some Christian women (certainly not all, but a growing alarming number) begin to see marriage as the ultimate finish line. They’ll sacrifice almost anything (including that “hot” self worth that beautify any woman in ways that no jewelry can) just to get there.

And all kinds of boys are exploiting this “pressure”.

What troubles me is that the same intensity is rarely directed toward becoming whole, building character, developing competence, discovering purpose, creating value, or learning the skills that actually sustain a marriage.

Or even building a sustainable business that grows outside the WhatsApp group.

We have become experts at matchmaking.

Ah!

The culture of constant Christian matchmaking, endless “when are you getting married?” jokes, and publicly peppering singles may feel innocent.

I don’t think it is.

When the pressure to get married becomes greater than the preparation to stay married, we shouldn’t be surprised if we see more broken homes in the years ahead.

Let me say it again “…we shouldn’t be surprised if we see more broken homes in the years ahead.”

Maybe it’s time to calm down.

Maybe we should calm down.

There are a couple of reasons people do not pray regularly, but one is the absence of sight into the realm of the spirit. If some of us saw how near we are to certain things, and how stiff the contention is that keeps us from them, we would dedicate more seriousness to prayer.

The same brains that think “groaning (even though I know this word is used wrongly) doesn’t start immediately. The holy ghost first takes some time. You must first hit a deep place before you start groaning”, will be praying to see instantaneous miracles like in the day of BABALOLA.

Nigerian Christianity must be comic relief for some lazy angels in purgatory (and I don’t believe in purgatory).
