Ambala Martyr’s Half Marathon 2026 (2nd Ed) flagged off by Lt Gen #RajeshPushkar, AVSM, VSM, GOC Kharga Corps, from Kharga Stadium, Ambala Cantt, concluded with immense pride and heartfelt gratitude as military and civil persons came together to pay tribute to the inspiring and indomitable spirit of our brave martyrs.

Over 1500 runners from different walks of life undertook 21.097 km, 10 km, 5 km & 3 km courses to pay homage to martyrs for their courage and valour.

Exercise #KhargaShakti2026 concluded successfully after an intense operationally orientated training cycle that rigorously validated the combat readiness of Kharga Corps across the full spectrum of modern battlefield scenarios.

The exercise showcased seamless integration of high mobility, precision firepower, UAS-enabled ISR, counter-UAS measures, layered air defence, and joint air-land operations with the Indian Air Force, reaffirming the Corps’ ability to transition swiftly from deterrence to decisive action.

Lt Gen #ManojKumarKatiyar, Army Commander, Western Command, commended the formations for their professionalism, technological infusion, and operational clarity, underscoring Western Command’s unwavering preparedness to ensure assured victory.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝘆 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗶𝘇𝗲: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗴𝗮 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝗷𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗻𝘁 "𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗻" 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗿, 𝗩𝗿𝗖 🇮🇳

At 22, most of us are figuring out life. At 22, Captain Vijayant Thapar was busy writing history in blood on the icy heights of Dras.

This is the story of a 4th-generation officer who left us a legacy of unmatched bravery and a letter that still makes India cry.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗔𝗚𝗘
Born on December 26, 1976, in Naya Nangal, Punjab, Vijayant (affectionately known as Robin) had olive green running through his veins.

He was the son of Colonel V.N. Thapar and Mrs. Tripta Thapar. His great-grandfather, grandfather, and father had all served the nation. For Robin, the Indian Army wasn't just a career; it was destiny.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗬
Vijayant worked tirelessly to join the academy. On December 12, 1998, he was commissioned into the Army Service Corps (ASC).

However, true to his warrior spirit, he didn't settle for logistics behind the lines. He opted for an attachment with the infantry the prestigious 2 Rajputana Rifles (2 RAJ RIF).

Within months of commissioning, he was moved to Kashmir for counter-insurgency, and soon, the Kargil War broke out.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗟𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗟𝗟
The date was June 28, 1999. The mission: Capture Knoll, a treacherous feature in the Dras sector essential for victory.

Captain Thapar was commanding the leading platoon of Alpha Company. The enemy was entrenched on high ground, raining down accurate artillery and machine-gun fire.

During the assault, the Company Commander, Major P. Acharya, was killed. The loss could have halted the attack, but Captain Thapar stepped up.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗔𝗖𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗩𝗔𝗟𝗢𝗨𝗥
Under a full moon, with enemy machine guns rattling, Captain Thapar surged ahead. He engaged the enemy just 15 meters away.

Realizing that the enemy machine guns had to be silenced for his men to survive, he fearlessly charged forward, firing from the hip. He killed two enemy soldiers in close combat.

Just as victory was in sight, a burst of enemy fire struck him on the head. He fell into the arms of his comrade, Naik Tilak Singh.

On June 29, 1999, at the age of 22, Captain Vijayant Thapar made the supreme sacrifice.

Motivated by his bravery, his men charged the enemy and captured Knoll completely.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗧 𝗟𝗘𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥
Before the final assault, Robin wrote a letter to his family. It was found in his pocket after his martyrdom. It remains one of the most poignant documents of the war.
He wrote:

"𝑩𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑰'𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒐𝒃𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒌𝒚. 𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒏𝒐 𝒓𝒆𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒔, 𝒊𝒏 𝒇𝒂𝒄𝒕 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒊𝒇 𝑰 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒂 𝒉𝒖𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏, 𝑰'𝒍𝒍 𝒋𝒐𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝒓𝒎𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒇𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒎𝒚 𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏."

He asked his family to donate money to an orphanage and to take care of Ruksana, a Kashmiri girl whose father had been killed by terrorists and whom Vijayant supported financially.

He ended the letter with words that became a motto for generations:

"𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗹𝗹, 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗶𝘇𝗲."

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗘𝗚𝗔𝗖𝗬
For his conspicuous gallantry and supreme sacrifice, Captain Vijayant Thapar was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra.

Today, his father, Col. V.N. Thapar, still visits the spot in Dras where his son fell, keeping the memory of "Robin" alive.

Take a moment to salute this hero today. He gave up his tomorrow for our today.

“May I urge you to remember that politics do not, and cannot, find any place in Army life.
An Army can have no politics.
It is the paid servant of the people, and is at the disposal of the Government of the day, whatever may be the political complexion of that Government.
Once there is any suspicion that an Army, or any part of it, is biased politically, from that moment the Army has lost the hill confidence of the nation who pays for it.

06 Dec 71, BRACHIL PASS at 14,000 Feet echoed with War Cry "HAR MAIDAN FATEH", What followed was capture of 19 Paki Posts. 29 Gallant SANT SIPAHIS were martyred. Unit was conferred with Battle Honour BRACHIL PASS & WALI-MALIK.
