There is a blessing for bread, for wine, for thunder, for a rainbow,
for seeing a friend after thirty days apart, for surviving a moment you thought might kill you.
We built a language for gratitude before we built almost anything else. ✡️
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה
Tisha B'Av.
The fast ends tonight.
It starts in the wilderness.
Twelve men scout the land.
Ten come back afraid.
That night, the people wept for nothing.
The Talmud says God answered: you cried without cause — I'll give you a reason to cry on this date, for generations.
They didn't know they were setting a pattern.
• 586 BCE. Nebuchadnezzar burns the First Temple.
• 70 CE. Titus burns the Second Temple.
👉🏻 655 years apart, the same day on the Hebrew calendar.
• 135 CE. Betar falls, the last stand of the Bar Kokhba revolt. The Talmud says the blood reached the Mediterranean, forty miles away.
• 1290. England's expulsion order takes effect, this date.
• 1492. Spain's deadline for every Jew to leave the country lands on this date — moved a few days later than planned, by an inquisitor who had no idea what he was moving it onto.
• 1942. The Nazis didn't pick this date by accident, they knew exactly what day it was on our calendar when they opened the gates of the Warsaw Ghetto onto the trains to Treblinka.
Different centuries.
Different empires.
Different languages for the same sentence.
Every one of them thought this would be the day it ends.
It's never been that day.
It's just the day we remember why it hasn't.
✡️
Today begins the Nine Days.
We stop eating meat.
We stop drinking wine.
We stop celebrating anything.
Because for nine days, we walk alongside our ancestors who watched Yerushalayim fall and had no meat, no wine, no celebration left.
✡️
In the beginning, there was a man.
And HaShem looked at him — the only being made in His image — and said:
לא טוב היות האדם לבדו
"It is not good for the man to be alone." (Bereshit 2:18)
Of every thing HaShem had created, He called each one tov.
Good. The only thing He ever called not good was a man without a woman to walk with him through the world.
So He did something He had not done with anything else.
He did not form her from the dust.
He put the man to sleep, and from his very center, HaShem built her.
ויבן ה' אלהים את הצלע
"And HaShem built the rib." (Bereshit 2:22)
Not created.
Not made.
Built — the same verb used for sanctuaries.
She was not an accessory.
Not an afterthought.
She was the half of him that was missing, constructed by the same hand that had designed him.
And when the man woke up and saw her for the first time, his first words were not a description.
They were a recognition.
זאת הפעם עצם מעצמי ובשר מבשרי
"This time — bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh." (Bereshit 2:23)
This time.
As if he had been searching without knowing he was searching, and now, finally, he understood.
That is what love is in the Hebrew imagination.
Not a passion that strikes.
Not a feeling that overwhelms.
A recognition.
The moment your eyes land on someone and something inside you remembers that you were once part of the same body — separated only so you could find each other across a lifetime and choose, freely, to come back together.
Where there was nothing, there is now a home.
A table.
A family.
A love that grows older every year, not weaker.
Where there was one, there is now everything.
By design.
The same hand that separated Adam and Chavah is the hand that brings them back together. ❤️

🚨@patrickbetdavid on why guilt is one of the worst things a parent can use on their kids.
"One of the worst things you can do with your kids is to use guilt. It produces a very weird emotion in kids. It's such a painful thing to the kid. They don't deserve this."

A tragedy erev shabbos as the community laid to rest a 47 year old mother of 9. We can't take away their pain but we can ease some of their material burdern. Please give what you can to this family who devoted their lives to serving others. https://t.co/DMY5uQaVPs
I always laugh at yo-yo’s who don’t have the 1st clue what information the President had that forced this decision. Even politicians who despise him but were briefed on the situation seem to agree with this operation. I guess lotta podcasters know better. 😂. Gotta keep the lights on somehow. Borderline traitors if you ask me. Iran is a terror nation with a long history of some of the worst human rights atrocities in the world. Nobody disputes that fact. They hate Americans. They hate Israel. They hate all Jews. They hate the West. They would kill us all if given the chance. They just murdered tens of thousands of their own people. The rest of the Middle East is on our side. The Iranian people are on our side. It isn’t that complicated to support our Troops and our country this morning. We are on the right side here. God Bless America . 🇺🇸
If there’s a chance to make Stage IV cancers go into complete remission we should study it!!! We should not dismiss the potential when it could save so many lives
Westerners are willing to lose their culture, heritage, religion, and civilization to prove that they are tolerant of those invading them, and mounting them, their children, and their women. It is astonishing.
