Such Sad News 😢

"It is with deep sadness that we must share the loss of Faa Sai and Ploy Thong following the catastrophic flooding at the Elephant Nature Park.

Ploy Thong was rescued in 2018 from an elephant riding camp in Pattaya, having previously worked in the logging industry. She lived happily at ENP as a nanny to Sai Thong, Chaba, ChomPu, and Muay Lek, and had a profound bond with her dear friend Kabu. Despite her blindness, she lived harmoniously within her herd, who lovingly guided her throughout the park and ensured her safety. Tragically, Ploy Thong lost her herd during the flood, and despite the diligent efforts of her caretaker, she was swept away by the raging river.

Faa Sai, rescued in November 2007, arrived at ENP traumatised and extremely aggressive after enduring the cruelty of the phajaan. Over time, she began to heal and was eventually accepted into the Faa Mai herd as the big sister to Tong Jaan and Faa Mai, later becoming the junior nanny to Dok Mai and Dok Rak when they were younger. Known for her independence, Faa Sai often roamed the sanctuary, introducing herself to other elephants, such as Thong Ae’s herd, and playing on her own in the river.

During the flood, Faa Sai ventured close to the river despite the concerted efforts of our team to keep her safe, and tragically, she too was taken by the current.
Both Faa Sai and Ploy Thong were found approximately 1 km downstream from the park, having succumbed to drowning.

We deeply appreciate the outpouring of kind words and support during this time of mourning and crisis.

This dog's name was Gunner. My uncle brought him back from WW2. He was raised and slept under my uncle's anti- aircraft gun. The gun crew shared their
rations to feed him. By the time he was 18 months old, my uncle said he would stand up and look at the sky. If he laid back down they knew all was ok. If he growled
and put his hackles up they got at the ready. He knew the sound of the German aircraft and my uncle said he
never got it wrong. He said Gunner was better than any early warning system. I'm probably the only one left in the family that knows that story now, so I thought I'd tell it before it's lost forever, like many stories must be from that time. Thanks for reading it.
