Happy 30th birthday to the very handsome and extremely talented award-winning Singer, Songwriter, Composer, Musician, Producer, Radio DJ, Actor and K-Pop Global Icon, the One & Only Youngjae! 👏🎂🎉🎈🌟👑🐐💚
#Youngjae became famous as the Main vocalist of GOT7, one of the most successful K-Pop Groups of the Era! He's a light lyric tenor with a distinctive “color” that stands out even in group tracks. Youngjae trained for just seven months, debuted last, and still became the voice the group leans on for live high notes and emotional lines. He carries the hard vocal parts with JB, and is also a very talented songwriter and composer under the name of ARS, which he has used since 2016, taken from the Latin 'Ars longa, vita brevis' ("art is long, life is short”). That line is tattooed on his right upper arm. Youngjae is one of the warmest and most thoughtful souls, and on his other upper arm he has a yellow ribbon memorial tatoo for the victims of the 2014 Sewol ferry sinking, most of them Danwon High School students on a trip. On the fourth anniversary he covered “You, Who I Love,” a song by student Lee Da-woon, who wanted to become a singer-songwriter, but died in the disaster. Youngjae is a very talented creator and musician, and uses the piano when he composes a song! He has writing and/or composing credits on almost 50 tracks, including the GOT7 songs "Rewind", "Moon U", "Sign", "Nobody Knows", "1:31AM", "Breath", and later "Drive Me To The Moon" and "Our Youth", plus almost every song of his own including "Vibin", "Eternal", "Sugar", "Do It", "T.P.O" and "Fermata"! Youngjae was been key to GOT7’s sound and staying power as the main vocalist and in-house writer, but he has also built a real solo career of his own.

After winning the Vocal Excellence Award at Mokpo Youth Music Festival in 2011, Youngjae joined JYP through a closed academy audition in 2013, and debuted on January 16, 2014. After a very successful Era as the Main vocalist of GOT7, in 2021, he made his solo debut with the Album "Colors from Ars" (2021), which hit No. 1 on iTunes in 26 countries and peaked at No. 6 on the Gaon weekly album chart! The title track “Vibin” topped iTunes Charts in 21 countries and reached No. 124 on the Gaon Digital chart! In 2022 he released his 2nd mini album 'SUGAR' which debuted at #2 on the Worldwide iTunes Album chart after reaching #1 on iTunes in 24 countries, #15 on US iTunes and No. 5 on the Circle/Gaon album chart! His 3rd Studio album 'Do It', his 1st full-length studio album, released in 2023, reached No. 6 on the worldwide iTunes album chart and peaked at No. 13 on the Circle weekly album chart. Youngjae has sung multiple drama OSTs. In 2021, he starred in 'Midnight Sun', a musical adaptation of the Japanese movie 'A Song to the Sun', performing in 22 out of 95 shows! On 28 March 2022, Youngjae became the new permanent DJ of MBC Radio's 'Best Friend'! In January 2025 he starred in the musical 'Dream High'. He also starred in the series 'Friendly Rivalry' with favorable reviews for his acting and drastic image change.

Youngjae has won several awards. On 6 August 2022 in Bangkok, at the Ganesha Awards, Youngjae won for Best Asia Artist and Actor, and was named Ambassador of Cultural Friendship and Tourism Promotion to ASEAN. In 2022 he also won the MBC Entertainment Awards Rookie Prize (Radio) for 'Best Friend', then Best Radio DJ at the 2023 Brand of the Year Awards and Most Anticipated Radio DJ at the 2023 Korea First Brand Awards. He also won the 2024 Seoul Music Awards Global Producer Award and the Supersound Festival Super Male Vocalist prize in 2025!

Youngjae has attracted several endorsements! With GOT7 he was a global ambassador for THE FACE SHOP! As a Soloist he has been Levi’s Red campaign artist (2021), and has done clothing drops with PLAC and Howlpot (Ars × Coco), a Covernat × Esquire project with Yerin, Candy Lab in 2022 and Taiwan telecom DJB as brand ambassador in 2024. In September 2025, he was appointed Asian Ambassador to Thai mattress brand LUNIO!

Youngjae has consistently donated to charity. On October 15, 2018, he released “I’m All Ears” with Park Ji-min for the Life Insurance Social Philanthropy Foundation’s youth suicide-prevention campaign! He registered as an organ donor in 2020, then released the song, “Everything For You” on December 11, 2020. In May 2021 he joined the “I Rose You” campaign, run by the Love Organ Donation Movement Headquarters for donors and their families, recorded “I’m All Ears” for a youth suicide-prevention drive. In October 2022, he sent Covernat × Esquire Colors profits toward ALS patients! Youngjae also helps animals, and in 2020 his Ars × Coco Howlpot drop sent ₩15 million to KARA’s Bom Center. After Coco died, Youngjae donated another ₩30 million on Dec 2025 to the Korean Dogs’ Rainbow Shelter in her name and volunteered there. He just gave another ₩10 million on his 30th birthday while serving as a social-service worker.

Youngjae still has one of the finest voices in K-Pop and has built a real solo career as a singer, songwriter, actor, and DJ, without dropping the group that made him famous. He has always been someone who stays true to himself and never fails to make Ahgases proud. He is currently serving in the military, spending the past year writing, and remains the sunshine in the seven!

The music scene in Korea, along with solo artists, is in crisis and transitional. Most investors and agencies are busy producing K-pop idols, while most advertisers prioritize numbers and money over brand image by booking K-pop idols. While this is considered natural, as someone in this industry, I find it distressing.
