Just published The Challenges for Liberal Democracy in the 21st Century, asking the question - how can the forms of democracy practised in the West be relevant to and adapt to a multi-polar world. https://t.co/w3w8rcDcBc
Tx to @brumirish for inviting our members to their Chirish Moon Festival Party on Monday. The event brought our communities together to share culture, fun, fitness & food. With live music +singing, it was great craic!🏮🥮🇨🇮
I agree with comments that Gao is right in saying that UK is no longer a major global competitor. Yet, I believe we can be in certain sectors but only if our political & business elites put the country and people first, and not their ideologies & ambitions for power and wealth.
'It would be completely misguided for Britain to view China as a competitor... what do China and Britain compete with?'
The British government should not 'overestimate its impact on the global scene,' spokesperson for the Chinese Communist Party, Victor Gao, tells @AndrewMarr9.

Agree with Kerry Brown "the greatest threat to us from China is our own muddled, panicked state of mind, crediting a false level of coherence and strategic nous to Beijing in order to compensate for our own complacency, incompetence and lack of self-knowledge."
From today's Guardian: How can the west best tackle the threat from China? First, it must stop panicking.
An MPs’ report on Chinese intentions credits President Xi with a flattering level of strategic nous. The real problems lie closer to home.
