I can’t believe he didn’t break one of his contracts so he could earn 10 Canadian dollars and subject himself to violent scrutiny from lesbians for the rest of his career
@trinstaa i lowkey don't know where you're coming from because we recently had tinashe at a festival lineup last year and i feel like she hasn't left the australian conscience since... people go feral for that disco lines remix of no broke boys
@ctrl_sedgrick and i think that's why it's interesting that this has generated some of the most widespread comparisons to kpop - i think the root of the issue here is that those comparisons reduce tinashe to simply a 'pop blueprint' which her incredible catalog clearly disputes
be calm I love and support my rnb mummas? I didn't even say that tinashe exclusively makes pop, it's just that it's frustrating that when she does she attracts such kpop comments as my tweet quoted. The kpop industry has such a weird relation with black music, let's be fr
This whole “black women get judged for making anything that’s not r&b” is just a racist dog whistle at this point bc u ppl aren’t even supporting those r&b artists ever lol the issue is devaluing black artists of any sort, not supporting those that make black genres
to be clear I wasn't saying that she doesn't - my tweet was in reference to her attracting the most attention from kpop fans when she strays away from her experimental rnb stuff. Too easy is quite clearly pop, as was some of songs for you, and they get the most kpop comments yk?
@wellnotactually yet the comments re: kpop taking influence from her only really arise when she does something outside of the stereotypical mold that's been created for her - too easy is far and away her poppiest song since maybe no broke boys? if not before
@moderndaybc these comments always arise when she veers more outside of this stereotypical mold for what black women can do in the music scene, that's all i'm saying
there's something so strange when it comes to tinashe (and to a lesser extent, pinkpantheress) where people are so quick to reduce her innovation to existing in the context of a 'kpop blueprint' - might have something to do with a black woman making music that isn't R&B or rap
hill i’ll die on: phone free concerts are utter bullshit in this economy, for what you’re charging me for your fucking ticket i’ll record whenever and whatever i want and you shut tf up. gigs are becoming more and more inaccessible, i have to right to take pics, videos, MEMORIES
