When I was in college many years ago, my roommate couldn't afford a strapless bra to wear with her formal dress, so she "supported" her breast with duct tape. At the end of the evening, after a couple of drinks, she ripped it off and literally tore layers of her nipples. To encourage this is beyond comprehension.

I'm sorry. If you have another child I hope your wife will consider breastfeeding until your baby self weens (my two both did just after four years). When people compliment me on our now adult children's accomplishments, I don't say it but do think the breastfeeding has much to do with it (though their diets were whole foods from there on out and maybe I don't give that enough credit). You're right that food is everything.
